Galil / Question about Galil and Mach3 interaction
« on: November 23, 2018, 04:58:05 PM »
Hello,
Concerning the Galil plugin and the way Mach 3 work together.
1. When you save motor tuning parameters on the Galil board, KD, KP and KI, are these settings used when Mach3 is running, or does the plugin do something else for tuning?
2. Is it possible to edit any part of the Galil plugin?
3. The feed hold function is rather slow to stop the motion. Can this delay be shortened for a faster response?
Thanks, Allen

Galil / Mach-Galil forgetting position
« on: September 06, 2016, 01:18:37 PM »
Hello, I was having trouble yesterday with stopping and not getting to the correct position. Setup is Mach 3, Galil 4163 and the 4.6 Galil plugin. I gave x19 f150 and it travelled for a distance then stopped way short of 19. It did this several times after working correctly for almost 2 hours. I could enter another MDI command for X and it may or may not go to the right place. I tried giving an M5 after entering another long 19" move and it stopped short of 6" and then shut the spindle off. I am sure my DMC4163 is good as I can run loops all day long and it never fails but Mach seems to cause issues. I forgot to mention I have it connected through ethernet. I have played with the plugin settings and even went back to the recommended defaults from the manual. Ant help is greatly appreciated.

Galil / Program stalls then continues.
« on: April 26, 2016, 07:59:32 AM »
Hello, I am having a strange thing happening with my Galil DMC 4163 and Mach3. Sometimes as a program is running, the motion just stops for a few seconds during a move then continues like nothing has happened. Usually not a big deal unless it's during a finish cut where stopping is visible. I am using XP connected through ethernet to my Galil. I would suspect that Mach is giving a zero speed command to Galil at a random point while the computer or Mach thinks about something. To my knowledge of Galil programming, the only way to stop and start motion during a commanded move, is the SP0 (zero speed) command to that axis. I have found no pattern as to when this happens. Has anyone else seen this and does anyone have a method to test or fix it? Thanks for your time, Allen

Galil / Help with Tuning issue
« on: November 22, 2014, 11:37:51 AM »
I have asked this before but never got an answer. Galil DMC2030, 3 axis servo, Galil plug-in V4.4.0.0. Tuning in Galil WSDK motors respond perfectly. Smooth motion, no noise, 1,000,000 AC and DC, BG and JG commands make the motors do exactly what they are supposed to do. But when I go into Mach3, X axis jerks bad. Y is not as bad but certainly a bit more noise than in Galil terminal mode. Z about the same. Changes motor settings on all 3 axes to 120 velocity and 20 accel. I am trying to find out why my PID tuning parameters need to be changed. How is Mach working with the Galil to monitor position? Does Mach send BG commands then leave it up to Galil to complete the move or does it intervene during the move to alter the position and velocity based on Mach's calculations? How would be the best way to tune the servo motors for use with Mach3?

Galil / Motor humming when controlled by Mach3
« on: August 30, 2013, 04:43:38 PM »
Strange problem I think.  My Y axis is an Aerotech BA30 amp with B500 brushless DC motor. When auto tuning with WSDK I get strange sets of parameters. But I can get it to run well by giving Galil commands from the terminal. Nice moves and no noise although if I check settling time it's terrible and when I run those params in manual to see what the scope says, it looks bad. The funny part is that when I start Mach and make a move with the Y axis, it starts humming. The moves seem to be correct and it runs programs fine but always hums. When I shut down Mach, the humming goes away. Any clues as to why this happens? It seems like the Galil plugin is doing something to make the motor hum and unstable.

Thanks, Allen

Galil / Remote jog pendant again
« on: January 17, 2013, 11:11:33 AM »
I know I have posted this topic before but I'd like to see if anyone has come up with anything new lately. Has anyone come up with a remote jog pendant for MACH with a Galil controller? I see that you cannot use the second parallel port with the Galil plugin. I can do the programming for the Galil to use the inputs for jogging but have no idea how to update the position info back to MACH or even if that can be done. Perhaps someone has discovered a way to do this. I thought it was worth asking again. It sure would be handy instead of reaching for the keyboard all the time.   Thanks, Allen

General Mach Discussion / Cannot get backlash to work.
« on: November 24, 2012, 12:26:02 PM »
Hello, I cannot seem to get backlash comp to work at all. No matter what values I use it makes no difference. Speed is set to 200%. Tried .003" and nothing. Then tried .050 and no difference. Each time I make a change I close and open Mach and check the values before moving but there is no comp happening. Any settings I am missing?
Thanks

Galil / Program run problem with motors and DMC2030
« on: February 17, 2012, 12:48:00 PM »
I am now having a problem with the motors running very roughly when I run a program but when jogging they work just fine. I have tried the max speed from 30 - 120 and it seems to make no difference on roughness of the motors. I can go to WSDK and move slow or fast from the terminal and they are perfect. This problem shows up only when Mach moves the motors with a G command. I have checked the plugin parameters and they are set where the tutorial recommends. Am I missing something?

Galil / Plugin locking up Mach
« on: January 21, 2012, 11:17:41 AM »
I am having problems with getting Mach 3 to work with my Galil DMC2030. I have a fresh install of XP and Mach and the plugin but now when I select the plugin to configure it locks Mach up completely and I have to ctrl-alt-delete to get it to end. The DMC works perfectly with Galil Tools and WSDK. I've had it working a couple times lately but now every time it locks.  Any ideas out there?
Thanks, Allen

Galil / Changing accel & decel rates
« on: December 21, 2011, 11:44:29 AM »
Hello, Maybe this has been addressed somewhere already but here goes. I like to use high accel and decel rates when running programs but when jogging it might be nice to have lower rates for more accuracy. I know how to make threads in the Galil but don't know how to have Mach execute those threads or if there is a feature in Mach which already does this. I think the ideal would be to have Mach change the accel and decel automatically when the arrow keys are pressed then return to the higher rates when executing a program. Can I have opinions and comments? Thanks.
