PoKeys / CNCAddon - limits wiring ?
« on: March 28, 2015, 11:13:39 AM »
How do I wire the limits / home with cncaddon ?

Connecting a GND from the cncaddon, to a limit, does not seem to work.
The GND I used was next to the Vout adjustment, bottom right corner.

Weather I wire this gnd on the cncaddon to a switch (to test), say axis0 = x+, does not seem to work.

What GND should I use ?

I always get a limit switch error all the time.

PoKeys / Re: 57E + cncaddon - grounds and wiring (servo AC808)
« on: March 25, 2015, 10:20:28 AM »
Are the grounds 2,4,6,8 internally connected ie equal on the cncaddon ?

Ie can I connect like this

PoKeysCNCaddon (10Pin)   MCA808 X1 (DB9 male)
3  DIR   --------------------------->    1 DIR+
2  GND   -------------------------->    6 DIR-,
                                                  7 PUL-,
                                                  8 ERC-
5  STEP --------------------------->    2 PUL+
1  ENABLE --------------------------->    3 ERC+

The reason is that the nr of connections increases quite a lot, If I need to do extra lines 7,8 for each of 4 drives.
I am running out of motor data lines on the 25 pins connectors out-of-controller.

PoKeys / 57E + cncaddon - DIR line is not working ?
« on: March 23, 2015, 06:58:16 AM »
Pokeys 57E+cncaddon.

Servo driver MCA808, with differential signals.
DIR+, PUL+ connected to +5V.

DIR- to pin 3.
STEP- to pin 5.

Servo locks on turn ok-ok.
Jogging works in one direction only.

I tried changing to new plug on the cncaddon board, from 0 to 1.
-Same problem

I tried changing to new servo driver.
-Same problem

Attached the exported xml for pokeys pin settings and pulse engine settings.

Any ideas from anyone ?

Fwiw..
Differential steppers 2M542 drivers work fine, with steppers, on another Pokeys56U.
Differential servo drivers MCA808 work fine on this one, as well.

I need the speed of the cncaddon, though.

CS-Lab / Howto connect ENC module - IPS / M3 turn ? No RPM readouts
« on: December 14, 2014, 06:33:36 AM »
Please provide some pointers on howto connect the ENC module.
The goal is to get good threading- to limits of machine accuracy.

Z,X, and C are all step/dir servos.
Thus the servo A, A/, B, B/, already feed to the servo drive.

The connections to the servo driver are made through a DB connector CN1.
I am using the servo, SDB08NK0 as the spindle drive in step/dir mode.

So ..
CZ+, pin 6, is CZ+ (= Z Phase OUtput).
CZ-, 5, is CZ- (Z Phase Output GND).

Also,
PZOUT+, pin 26.
PZOUT+, pin 13.

Connecting:
CZ+, pin 2 on servo CN1, to digital input pin 9 (Input 9-).
CZ+, pin 5 on servo CN1, to DC GND.

This shows the digital input LED on the IP-S flashing, as the encoder fires for a small time, once per turn.
Positioning the servo on the Z- index, leaves the digital input led on.

BUT..
In Mach3 diagnostic, the index led does not come on.
In turn, turning on the spindle with M3 (or spindle on, F5), does not give spindle rpm.

Spindle works CW/CCW fine.

Connecting:
PZOUT+, pin 26 on servo CN1, to ENC pin 4 (Encoder 1 IN I+).
PZOUT-, pin 13 on servo CN1, to ENC pin 17 (Encoder 1 IN I-).
Likewise the LED on the ENC is on (turns off when on index, flashes once/turn. LED on ENC module stays on when servo is positioned on the index).
+5V (pin 1) and GND (pin 14) on ENC is not connected.

1. So what should I do next ?
2. Why does M3 turn diagnostics not show the index led - does this not work in IPS or motion controllers ?
3. Why dont I get spindle RPM readouts in M3 turn ?

Pics.
1. Full schematic.
2. Servo pins connector.
3. Enc connector.

(minor editing and spelling fixed)

CS-Lab / Wiring IP-S outputs - Switched 0V side ? howto
« on: December 02, 2014, 02:58:56 AM »
Can anyone here help on howto switch the 0V side for outputs on IP-S controller ?

I am trying to get the IP-S to send a servo-on signal, to enable the servo.

This goes to PIN21 on the servo drive.

Servo works fine, step/dir and inputs for servo-alarm, servo-arrive etc.
The difficulty is that the servo drive inputs are on the 0V side, not the +24V side.

Wiring with a mechanical switch works, like this picture.

CS-Lab / Inputs not working ? IP-S
« on: May 19, 2014, 01:31:40 AM »
I am not seeing any inputs working (on the box leds or in mach3).

Per the cslabs drawing on wiring basic machine, it shows this

" 4.8 Digital inputs connector (0-15) (CSMIO/IP-S v2)", manual page 17.

Pin 1 input 0 (+) and pin 5 Inputs 0-7 (-).
So having a switch from pin 1. to pin 5 would be correct ?

Or ..
Pin 1, to the +24V line on the power supply.

4.15.3 Illustrative diagram of XYZ plotter (CSMIO/IP-S v2), manual page 24.
I am just trying to get inputs to work.

A wire connected from pin 1 to 5 or from +24v to pin1 both dont work.
No inputs.

Any ideas ?
A longshine stepper drive with differential outputs, and an ac brushless servo drive both work fine.

PoKeys / Pokeys with step/dir spindle
« on: March 07, 2014, 03:16:34 PM »
I have a pokeys 56U (and ethernet pokeys).

Using the 56U at the moment on my mill.
Using 25 kHz integrated pulse engine.
I have a c6 step/dir board, thats is connected to the VFD (and has fwd/rev relays. Works very well).

I am trying to drive the c6 from pokeys.

I have spindle drive enabled, and port 10 signals 42/43 connected from pokeys to the C6 board.
Spinndle enabled in ports and pins.

The step dir settings are 10/42 and 10/43.
I dont see output changing in pokeys, when I try to put on the spindle.

My pokeys work, jogging works, and both MPG1 and MPG2 work well.

JOGGING works VERY WELL with tweo dedicated MPGS (x and y).

I just need to get the spindle to turn on.

? Any idea .. what am I missing ??

PoKeys / Pokeys 56U, MPGs and XPe
« on: August 11, 2013, 09:25:39 AM »
I cannot jog with the MPGs on Xpe (Windows XP embedded).

Pokeys IO works, estop, plugin, mach3 everything works.
Latest versions, v3057 of Pokeys sw, Mach3 3.043.066.

Jogging works with same 56U and 3xMPG hw on another PC with XP.
Copying xml files, pokeys plugin, setting up different parameters on the Pokeys plugin page - no effect.

Any ideas as for why cant I MPG jog ?

Does anyone have pokeys and MPG working on XPe or thin client ? :-*

PoKeys / New firmware - MPG functions died - no recovery !!
« on: April 20, 2013, 08:01:57 AM »
Reconnected Pokeys today, with idea of connecting second MPG.

So.. it wanted to upgrade the firmware, from 3.0.21 to 3.0.46.. ok ..
MPG stopped working !
at some point it wanted to Update the firmware to 3.0.52 .. ok ..

..tried restarting PC, Pokeys (USB), installing setup_21, setup_31, removing all plugins,
..removed fysically the second MPG.
..have the estop in Pulse Engine - the E-stop always works in all combos.
totally removing pokeys from Control Panel and re_installing from web, from setup_21, from setup_31 ...

NO combo will give MPG funcionality. !!

ALL combos will show, in IO, the MPG lines working, for MPG1, pins 1,2.
IE the IO diag shows the data coming in.

I NEVER GET MOVEMENT from MPG after upgrading the firmware.
And ESTOP always works.

SmoothStepper USB / Smoothstepper jogging - bug ! with external switches
« on: December 28, 2010, 09:27:30 AM »
SS apparently wont jog correctly with external buttons !

Ie if I assign an external button, eg. /Ports & pins/Input Signals/ OEMTRIG #3, port #1, pin # 13
the  jog starts but wont stop until another jog key (of the same axis) is hit.
The OEMcode I was using was
308 Jog X-- (Oemtrig #3, Port1, #14)
307 Jog X ++ (Oemtrig #3, Port1, #14)

Notes/tests to confirm:
If I go to a PP only operation, the problem does not exist.
Keyboard jog works correctly.

Is my OEMCode wrong ?
I found Hoods list of oemcodes, excel and PDF versions, but they all only mention 307/308 for jogging x +/-.

Is there a workaround still using external buttons ?

data below
--------------------------
HW:
HW buttons physically wired to the SS
SS with CNC4PC SS interface bob, C25, rev 1.1
Button presses work in SS data monitoring, and I can see button signals go up/down.
Changing buttons or ports makes no difference.

SW:
Newest current mach, 3.043.22
downloaded sat. 25.12.2010.

SS plugins:
Plugin: Smoothstepper_Beta2_v015ogx2
Plugin: Beta2 Ver 0.016bd
Both plugins have the same error, the first one is the current one as of today, 28/12/2010.

More SW:
Windows XP, SP2, no PC problems.
Mach runs faithfully.
