Galil / Galil 4080 won't connect / no contour mode?
« on: October 26, 2020, 12:44:05 PM »
Hello -

Long time mach3/galil user, trying to set up a new machine with mach4 - using a galil 4080 and win10.  Initial success but realized that I couldn't reverse an axis direction with the check box in the mach motors tab, found this thread (https://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php?topic=42307.msg275430#msg275430) and downloaded updated plugin (version 255 updated from 252) but now, it won't connect to galil at all.  Controller is still listed but no communication at all, if I remove controller from the list (back to the left-hand list) it disappears completely and no controllers are found.  Revert to old plugin version makes it come right back and work fine.  Running GDK-696 downloaded from Galil, which also works fine.

Also, second issue, when it was working (older plugin version), mach would not move the machine under contour mode, only under linear interp.  Galil debug file under LI shows numerous LI commands being issued and motion works fine, switch to contour mode and debug file shows no motion commands, no commands after initial configuration.

Thanks for any help!

Galil / TCP Lost Sync Error
« on: October 10, 2012, 09:36:29 AM »
Using a 2143, Windows 7, newer Mach3 plugin version, the controller is using to its own network card via a 5 ft crossover cable.  Running longer programs will eventually (usually around 40+ minutes into the thing) result in motion stopping and mach3 apparently losing connection with the controller.  If I open Smartterm and ask "TC", it tells me TCP Lost Sync.  I have to restart Mach3 to regain a connection, cannot merely press the "reset/estop" button.  Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Galil / Motor stutters
« on: September 18, 2012, 02:13:59 PM »
I'm running a 2140 ethernet controller w/ mach3 on Windows 7, controlling a 3 axis router.

When running programs with lots of short G1 moves (i.e. the way some CAM programs divide 3d arcs) my feed rate is limited to maybe 75 IPM, running faster causes alarming-sounding stuttering (i.e. sudden full motor stops in mid-move).  I tried adjusting both the MachEx buffer and the Queue Buffer to larger (the queue is currently at 100, the machex at 250) and it does take a long time (several seconds) for the machine to stop if I hit feed hold, so I assume there is a fairly large buffer, but still there is crazy stuttering when it gets to portions of the code with a lot of short moves.  Longer moves do need pose a problem at all.

CV is enabled, dist tolerance is at 250, (what are the units of this anyway?)

Setting the "look ahead lines" to larger (i.e. >100) seems to make the problem worse, setting it small (i.e. 20) produces smooth controlled stops in mid-cut, then it resumes, then cuts, then stops again, etc etc.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Galil / Softlimits cause machine to stop moving?
« on: August 28, 2012, 04:02:31 PM »
Setting up a 3 axis router w/ a DMC-2143.  Everything works fine until I engage softlimits, the X and Y travel is about 10' by 5', so I entered X 0 to 120, Y 0 to 60, Z 0 to -15.  Home the machine fine, engage softlimits, the Z softlimits work fine, the machine refuses to move in either the X or Y direction.  If I jog the machine out to the middle of the table and then engage softlimits, it will jog towards 0,0 no matter which jog direction I attempt...  Then it gets to zero and there it stays.

I have X and Y "reversed" in the softlimits dialog, is this related?  I tried entering X -120 to 0, but that's a no go either...

Thanks for any help...

I'm working on a 4 axis mill w/ a handwheel used as an MPG input.  The Mach XYZ axes are mapped to Galil XYZ, the Mach A is mapped to Galil E, the MPG is using the main encoder on Galil D.  Jogging X, Y, and Z via the handwheel works fine, selecting Mach axis "A" causes a Galil error to appear on the status line, says "Galil Error 46: Gear axis both master and follower" ...

So did I set up something wrong?  Or is there something wrong with the axis mapping in the MPG code?  Or....?

Thanks!

Galil / Outputs can't be active low?
« on: July 20, 2009, 12:20:04 PM »
Has anyone had trouble getting the galil outputs to work configured as active low in the ports and pins screen?  I'm running an 1832 card and need 7 outputs to be active low, one to be active high, but all function active high regardless of which way the boxes are checked...  Thanks for any ideas...
