FAQs / Bob conections
« on: August 05, 2016, 06:10:02 AM »
Hi to all,
I have purchased a new Bob.

I am not sure where to put the GND's from all the three stepper drivers.

There only appears to be the one GND on the side of the board where stepper drivers are conected.

Are GND all common and conected as if they are one.

Thanks for looking

FAQs / Tuirning Stepper motors by hand
« on: July 30, 2016, 07:43:34 AM »
Hi to all
Can turning stepper motors by hand when power is swictched off destroy the electrics.

I did a short cut turning the stepper handles.with the power off,,, a few monrths later went to use it again under power to find it would not work,,,I noticed that the LED on the driver board lit up when I turned the steppers,, could this have blown the driver board up..The steppers used to buzz when on, now buz then go silent..
In my haste to get the machine working again I purchased a repalcment 3 axis driver, but cant help wondering if I should not turn them by hand,, but have seen loads on the net with handles.

FAQs / Stepper 4 wire bipolar configuration
« on: July 30, 2016, 01:35:57 AM »
Hi to all.
Its been a few years sincee having to make any repairs to my cnc equipment.

I am going to replace the 3 axis driver board in my Milling machine.

When I used to power it up the steppers would buz and lock up and all axis would work under comand.

Now when I power it up they buz and lock for about 1 second, then all goes silent and they are all not locked and it wont work.

Having convinced myself the Driver board was at fault I purchased a new 3 axis driver board.

I have been reading about the stepper wire conections, My steppers are powermax and have a plug rather than wire tails coming out of the motors,,I am not convinced the wires follow any standard layout,,when un pluged the motor has 8 pins all are linked to gether in pairs and only four wires come out of the plug,

I have identified the pairs aa bb..from what I have read so far on the net seems a bit odd when it comes to sorting out A- & B-,
I have been unable to find any Powermax pin info, is it really ok to just place them in A,A- and B,B- without knowing the polarity,, ill it not harm something, and how will I know if all is correct.
Many thanks
Berty

General Mach Discussion / Denford Orac 8 station turret
« on: February 12, 2011, 06:12:26 PM »
Hi to all
I am trying to get a orac auto turret working

The bit I am struggling with is the three grey scale optic sensors

I have got a drawing from denford forum

Q . there are three wires returning from turret and different sequences will give different outputs combinations
Can mach 3 be configured to work out the 8 different tool locations
or will I need another board to convert the returning signals

cheers

General Mach Discussion / OD facing wizard cuts a taper not parallel
« on: June 03, 2009, 04:42:35 AM »
I am still in convertion and setting up stage with lathe and occasionally i use it in manual to do small jobs

I tried to use the OD facing wizard but the machine gave a perfect tapper cut the when tool approached next cut the depth of cut stayed the same

I think it must be an offset problem but I am at a loss where to look for it

Maybee some one knows the answer

Cheers Bert
