General Mach Discussion / RPM not under 38
« on: August 22, 2010, 02:44:11 PM »
Situation: disk with one reflecting part and an opto sensor.
It gives a nice stable RPM DRO.
But when I let the machine rotate under 38 RPM, the S-true DRO shows wrong numbers in a random way (like 1546 rpm).

Does someone know how to solve this problem and make it possible to measure under 38 rpm????

Can't get proper true spindle reading,,, the DRO shows chaotic numbers

Situation:
Optical sensor (reflection type), two slots, wide enough

On input signals: Should I use index and timing????
Do they use the same pin?

On outputsignals: should i use Enable 1, or Output 1??????

I think this causes other problems like not being able to set the control ratio from the pulleys (the seem to live a life of there own).
Have been messing around for days and days now,,, I'm missing the basic vision behind this.
And without a good true spindle reading its not possible to do threading.

On all the other functions Mach is really fantastic and works great.

General Mach Discussion / shuttle mode, step/velocity and single step
« on: June 27, 2009, 03:15:11 PM »
Forum members,

Finally installed and tested one MPG. Works super! Tommorrow I will place the second one.
Some questions in the shuttle window:
1  In single step mode, if I turn the mpg, not every click is one step, although the pause between the clicks is long enough.
This is strange because in multi step mode every click is absolutely one step.
2  The step/velocity mode has a DRO next to it. I can not find any difference in changing its values, so what do they do? And also, if the turning speed of the MPG is slow enough, and you enter the stepmode from the step/velocity mode, the steps are all different in size.

I'm still cutting air, but cannot wait trying it for real,, must be much more fun compared with the old cnc program, which had none of these possibility's.

General Mach Discussion / Hysterese
« on: June 22, 2009, 05:19:57 PM »
Dear reader,

I want to put an optical device and some reflecting tape on the spindle axis, to generate a pulse for mach to control the spindle speed.
A friend told me there could be some sort of "bouncing", a very fast on and off switching, when the border of the tape passes the optical device.
Is there a way mach could deal with this situation, or do I have to filter out this noise, before sending it to mach?

I thought it could be controlled with the "inputs signal debouncing/noise rejection" on the general logic configuration screen.
Luckely this friend is very good in electronics, and capable of building some sort of filter to give a nice straight signal to mach,,,,, but is this necessary????

General Mach Discussion / motor tuning: aim for max speed??
« on: June 15, 2009, 05:58:01 PM »
What would be wise,,,,, go for the maximum x-axis and z-axis speed? Or set things a bit slower to get a more relaxed lathe?
Lathe: -between centers 600 mm (23 Inch)
-3 fase stepper motors 3,7 newton meter on the x- and z axis
          - powerfull computer 100 kHz kernel speed is possible

A motorvelocity of 4400 mm's per min is possible (higher is not possible for the steppermotor, it vibrates and does not turn), but is it clever/wise  to have this speed?

Tangent Corner / Do you know what this is? See picture.
« on: November 28, 2008, 08:55:13 AM »
Bought a secondhand lathe (AI hembrug from the Netherlands), a beautifull machine, and a small mill.
With it came a lot of parts, tools and equipment.
After a lot of puzzeling most of the things are clear, so i know how they are used, or what their purpose is.
But three parts are a mystery for me.
So have a look, and perhaps you know a thing or two about it.

First two pictures:
This is some sort of collet, but the three parts are not separated, so it is not possible to clamp something in it.

Tryed to paste some pictures in a new topic in this section, the tangent corner.
I think it could not be done, since there is no "attach" possibility under the "additional options" button.
So what is the right way to do this?
I have a few pictures of some strange tools, from which i don't know how they could be used with my new lathe.
Perhaps someone else knows all about it.
