General Mach Discussion / Sudden Misbehaving
« on: April 15, 2008, 12:19:35 PM »
Hey everyone.

I just recently got my first machine built and working. I had everything configured and set up with the machine moving and taking commands well from mach3 all that was left was a little tuning to get the acceleration and velocity dialed in. I could get good speeds up to about 30in/min and attributed that to needing to tweak and tune the machine.

Yesterday when I tried using the machine and getting some adjustment done, I fired it up and went to jog the machine and nothing...I thought I broke something so I tried again and noticed that it did actually do something, but it was sending only 1 pulse every 4-5 seconds and it was gradually getting a little faster as I held it longer and the acceleration caught up to full speed. I haven't adjusted anything from the last working configuration before it started doing this.

I can rule out defects with the router, my driver board, and the power supply because the router works well and has good speeds while using EMC under linux on the same computer. Any suggestions, I am new to mach and don't know if there is any other pertinent information i left out.

Thank you  ???

General Mach Discussion / New Guy...Need Help
« on: March 11, 2008, 10:25:11 PM »
Hey everyone. I can't seem to find any good tutorials for people just getting started with CNC. Plenty of stuff to make a machine and plenty of great tutorials on this website to teach you how to use mach3, but I can't find any that really detail the whole process.

I am comfortable with AutoCAD 2006 and I think i can get my way around Mach 3 ok, but I can't seem to get the hang of taking the item from one to the other.

Any suggestions, websites, guidance would be very appreciated.

General Mach Discussion / Testing LPT Port
« on: March 06, 2008, 12:05:12 AM »
Is there a way to test whether or not your lpt port is working properly? I cannot get my steppers to jog or turn with Mach3. I'm at a loss and have debugged everything except the lpt port. Not sure how to do this as I've been spoiled with USB most of my computer life and LPT is a fairly alien subject to me.
