Ok I ran drivertest and here are the results:

On the graph the time between pulses seems to be about 55
CPU MHZ 1496

“Pulsing too fast”

I’m gonna guess I should set the kernel speed to someth8ng like 60.

Craig,
Yeah, I know laptops are kind of a hit or miss proposition when using the parallel port. But I have had luck with two of them, and my current project sort of requires a portable computer.
Yes, I was able to run a similar motion control software. It’s very weird that the DRO doesn’t move. I have re-installed it twice and that didn’t work.
Should I just forget it?

I’m using the parallel port. I have two computers that work ok using the parallel port, and two that I use smooth stepper on. But in either case the dro moves.

Thanks Craig,
I do have the motors enabled. Still no movement on the DRO. Also I set the feed rate to f100 and the DRO still moved very slowly: about .03 per second.

Any other ideas on this?

I have 8nstalled Mach3 on a Toshiba laptop running Windpws7. Install went smoothly but I can’t change coordinates. Using the tab function, I cannot advance the numbers in X Y or Z.  The midi control does seem to work, but at a ver6 slow speed. Suggestions?

Thank you Craig. Good advice all the way around.

I’ve got an extra ESS and will probably end up using it.
  My laptop is running the motors very roughly anyways. I hooked it up to a machine that runs fine and the motors on it turned roughly when run by this laptop. Are there laptop brands or OS that won’t run mach3 smoothly? My computer is a dell latitude d600 running Windows XP.  I know laptops are not really advised but I need it to be portable.

Sorry bad typing: it is a DB25 connector and I’m sinking it to pin 14 which is an output, configured active low.

I am running Mach3 on a different computer and I’m experiencing rough running of the motors. They turn but run rough. I wire directly through db35 connector. Im sinking the +side of the driver to pin#6.
Any suggestions on what might cause this?

I use a db25 connector to avoid the cost of smooth stepper. On my milling mach8ne I use smooth stepper, but for other  weird projects I just like to use a db25 connection.

Any suggestions on connecting with usb?

I seem to be unable to download the mach3 .exe file to a memory stick. And this computer with windows 2000 is so old I don’t know how to get it hooked up to the internet. I know this isn’t really a mach3 issue, but any help would be greatly appreciated.
