ok, i will post mu findings once we sort it out...glad to know we are not the only ones with this problem. something we have noticed though, is that our step and direction signals run past a mqain power line...check that out!

2
i havent solved it yet sashco, but am going to get a lot of screening "sock" today so we can screen from interference. we think that interference and possible bad earthing could be the problem. check back with me in a couple of days

we are using stepper drives on this machine, why do you ask?

4
thanks hood, i will do as you recommend,i think the braided sleeve will be the best bet. tell me , would those be delta servo drives by any chance?

5
thanks hood, i know what you mean, we have changed the keyboard out, problem still occurs. it is extremely random, any ideas how to shield the step and dir wires from noise, must the box  be rewired?

do you know if servo systems are less susceptible to noise?

hi hood, thanks for the reply, the driver test ran ok and we had also  already done all of the optimisation tasks as outlined in the downloads page, that didnt make a difference. we have an nvidia graphics card g force 8400gs. could this card be doing it? if so any ideas how to sort it out?
thanks
marc

General Mach Discussion / 3second pulse in mach 3???
« on: October 02, 2008, 06:58:09 AM »
we are completely stumped here...can any one help? we have just fitted a new computer to a router we have built. when we run the steppers, they run for 3 seconds then stall to a halt. when we run the machine using same config file but with an older computer, all is fine and the motors run ok. both comp are running win xp. if we de tune the steppers then they contunue to run ok but every 3 seconds they still  get a pulse and now the speed is too slow...any ideas how to fix this one? it is very urgent please!

General Mach Discussion / Re: machining splines causes lost steps?
« on: December 21, 2007, 05:10:02 AM »
hey thanks for the help, you arnt way off at all, in fact i have had a few chaps tell me the same thing you said, but in the end it looks more and more like a mechanical error, perhaps a loose grubscrew on the y axis steppercoupling. they are still checking it out to confirm
thanks for the help, all the best marc

General Mach Discussion / machining splines causes lost steps?
« on: December 20, 2007, 04:34:51 AM »
hi guys, on a router,we have a y axis which is losing about 2mm on 400mm dia circle when splines are machined, in this case little curved pockets for fan blades which are in a patterned aray around the perimeter of a circle. this problem only occurs when splines are machined and not arcs. we are running latest mach3 and am stumped and pulling my hair out over this one, can any body shed any light on this boggle? any help much appreciated...thanks marc.
