Galil / Re: Galil Status
« on: November 23, 2008, 10:24:50 PM »
Hey all, I see that a lot of folks read the Galil posts. Sorry I have not posted in awhile. Galil has been running bug & error free free for over a year. Aug 2007 I put in a emachines(Gateway) box on my mill so I could use a PCI card I had obtained. I had been using an ISA card 1730, 1780 just fine but that was on an old P3 500hz box with Win98se. I wanted Winxp pro with faster bus so I needed a PCI card. Like i said MAch3 and Galil flawless!!! Used to use Camsoft always changing something very clunky spent to much time always configuring never trusting the machine.
I leave Alibre with Alibre Cam running on the computer with Mach3 running. Allows me to make parametric changes on the fly with just alt tab. Running VFD for spindle never could run my radio to much noise on line. I had xm radio playing over the internet while doin a drawing and forgot to dissconnect before running a part. Surprise 3000 lines of code all done at speed with the onternet and alibre running concurrently with Galil card. I'd say it;s running well. could not do that with my old Anilam Crusader

Newfangled Solutions Mach3 Wizards / Re: rectangular hole pattern
« on: October 11, 2008, 12:49:46 PM »
I am having problems with this wizard. 1. the grid lights will not stay on 2. the drill cycle buttons will not cycle. Posted code is incorrect as it only out puts rectangle with spacing leaving out the holes. Using the included wizard, Brians. I have the same result except that it will output x/y coordinates with no z movement.
Perplexed.
Lic file is in mach3 and mach3 shows as lic. Also latest version installed. Running on xp pro.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Mach3 using Galil servo card
« on: March 19, 2008, 12:33:19 AM »
I use those limit switches as well. They have been bathed in coolant and chips for years never have they failed. I've hit them pretty hard too. I use them with ramp stops on the ways so one switch works for both ways. that way I can use a seperate switch for home and limit just mount them over and under and they stay static the aluminum ramps mount to the table so I have no cable movement. I have not posted in awhile as I am backlogged with work. Have never been more consistent than I am now with Galil and Mach 3.  For all my 2d one off I use alibre and Alibre cam as I can change the drawing at the control parametrically and the code updates. OneCNC when I am not on the shop floor.
Thanks Brian & Art. Good Work!!!!!! :)

Galil / Re: Mach3 and Galil, What am I doing wrong?
« on: November 25, 2007, 09:37:02 PM »
Hey My name is David. I have been using the 1842 Econo for about a month and.... loving it. simple  like the prior post says the 1842 is Plug and play it looks for its own resources.
Today I was testing some 1700 series optimas. I addressed them all the same(these were not plug and play these are later cards where they disabled that) anyway I set then for IRQ5 Dma 1 and address 0338-33b. Turned on the computer went to my comp/properties/device manger. Checked config and res. All correct. Started Mach3 Galil communication started! Great checked Parameters changed all 6 axis to servo. ran program( I had an extra long breakout so I had done this on the work bench to the mill. Started cutting circular bearing journal, nested pockets. Flipped the parts reran program. Perfect!!!!!
I had gave up my old  DMC 1730 that I ran with Camsoft and purchased the econo 1842 so i could run Mach3. I sold 2 weeks ago my CNClite for $1045 before folks find ouy about Mach3 and Galil. I think these 1700 series cards work because Mach3 uses Galil system 7 drivers which are still supported and updated by Galil. they are also used by the 1800 & 2000 series cards and controllers. I put one of the 6 axis cards on Ebay tonite. I am going to keep several for myself. I figure I will use one of the 8 axis cards to control the spindle VFD and add a amp and handwheel for an easy knee. The 1700 optima cards unlike the 1842 take dual Encoder inputs so you can use two axis drives for gantry or encoder following for a simple way to raise and lower the knee. heck I may just put encoders on my Head stock so I can tram it or check the tram easily. With 8 axis what the heck.
Thanks Brain and Art I am so happy to be free from Camsoft.

Hey all i see that this post gets read alot so I'll update here.
Yes I am using Galil PCI 1842 econo series. Also configured an DMC 1739 Optima (ISA).
Glentek velocity Amps, SEM 4nm 4000rpm Tack Feedback. Loop closed with 5v TTL scales to the Galil icm 1900.
Galil WSDK tuning software. Full sized Kent Milling machine 3 axis.
Tried this on a whim while I was rebuilding Ballscrews. Worked so well I sold my Camsoft control and I will soon be selling my WINGCNC control.
Both of which were the only real Galil to Gcode Alternative. Machine is as accurate as ever with Camsoft running Mach3. Code is being generated by Camsoft and Alibre/Visual mill. With scale feedback ,the 10th bearing retaining ring with planetary drill grid matched perfectly with the first drilled and thats with 5 dif operations and tool changes.
My advice, if you can tune motors and have a Galil card, you can replace an 80's control with confidence and Mach3

I could not be happier! I sold the Camsoft controller and am waiting for an updated Galil from Brian though I am milling parts to the 10th!
G02& G03 took a little time to get accurate./ combination of tuning at the Amp level(Galil) & Mach.

Very solid program Mach, Camsoft should beware!

General Mach Discussion / Stop button error
« on: November 02, 2007, 05:35:17 PM »
Hey all, MY name is David. I am running Mach3 v 2.58 with a Galil card and mostly having everything work.
Machining a curve profile when I hit the stop button and cycle restart to resume sometimes the program disregards the tool path and goes off on a tangent. I have tried this on another computer just running the program and it does the same thing. Never the first time but often on subsequent times. Does show up as a green line in tool path  generation. any thoughts?
Thanks, David ???

I am not at my Machine though I did have to reinstall mach3 once to get clean scripts and parameters. If you do that remove your lic doc from your Mach3 directory, if you used default, then delete the directory completely after doing uninstall and you can start from scratch. You will also have to re download Galil plug in. Are you using Scales? With proper servo tuning I was able to get Mach3 to follow encoder counts exactly. Though the program will still fall short in MDI on a commanded move 10 - 14 thou. Re-enter the command a second time and it will go to that position within a half a thou. Still having trouble slight pausing between linear commands. Other than that running code great.

Jon here is a link to WSDK manual There is a good amount of info relating to your card and registration.

Good luck. I had a servo amp die today cobbled together a brushless AMC to replace my old Glentek. I have always heard you could run a brushed motor from a brushless amp though I had never tried. Works great just a little weird in the tuning parameters. Hope to have the glentek repaired tomorrow.
David
PS thanks Brian I am selling my cnclite on Ebay thanks to you. Everything works well I will sell the WINGCNC as well.  ;D
