Thanks. Got it.

Is there any chance that 7.5 will blow the input circuit on the BOB?

General Mach Discussion / Index signal setup
« on: October 24, 2022, 10:53:00 AM »
Trying to setup a tachometer back to the breakout board (port 1, pin 10) to get a speed index for threading on a small lathe that I have just converted to CNC. I made my first cuts in manual mode to test it out. Would like to head towards threading tests. Tried using the machine's own digital tach I/O pins to route back to the breakout board. I measured +- 5 V off of the back of the digital tach module. That one triggers on 4 magnets equally spaced. No luck.

I then bought a hall sensor kit from Amazon that was 120V input so I could just wire it from the power supply (also 120) on the lathe. That works and the digital readout works on one magnet (one pulse per rev) so all good. Input circuit of the tach sensor is about 12v DC and when I measure the signal switched loop I get just about 7.5VDC. The tach is working properly and when the magnet passes in front of the tip of the sensor the light lights and the signal goes to zero VDC. So this is set up active low. It is a 3 wire sensor.

All that for this question. Is 7.5V going to be too much for the breakout board?

My understanding is that the breakout board is just seeing the change in switch state and then you assign that to the Index input in Config in Mach3.

I am stumped on this simple thing.

Don't have separate DCM and ACM.

Been to that video and many others. My VFD is not that VFD.

OK,

Removed ground jumped between the relay common and the analog ground next to the 0-10v pin on the BOB leaving 0-10v pin connected to 0-10v input on vfd.

Big change.

Assigned port 1 and pin 2 for Active 1 and output 2. Relay latching. I get 12v at the relay terminals and relay latching. Turned PWM back on in spindle config and I get terrible resonant noise from spindle. Turned it off before it would damage anything.

Progress. I feel like I am close.

I will test all that.

Really need help understanding ports and pins in Mach3 in the spindle setup and output section of config. Seems no matter how I configure I get Active 1 and lighting up output 2 when I hit F5 in mach3.

I keep trying to stuff and getting confusing results.

On my VFD there is only one ground pin. There are no separate ACM and DCM. The BOB supplier shows hooking that one ground up to both that ground pin next to the O-10v and the com at the P2 relay. If the ground is only used for completing the activate circuit and not for the velocity input then that might be why I am getting weird results. Will try all combinations.

This VFD and Spindle:

This BOB:
https://www.automationtechnologiesinc.com/products-page/motion-controllers/cnc-6-axis-interface-breakout/

The machine is 4' x 4' x 1' 3 axis gantry with xyz and a slave all working great.

Updated from YH 1.5KW VFD to this setup. Swapped BOB due to no relay to control spindle and need for ER20.

Can't for the life of me get control of the spindle. If I get the relay to click and run the spindle I get a random limit switch signal that won't allow reset.

The setup runs on manual mode front panel of the VFD just fine.

I don't seem to be getting 0-10v signal of that pin on the BOB. There is no interference with pin 2&3 even though I am using them for X axis. If I disconnect no change. If I disconnect any wire to the VFD the spindle turns off. Switching active high low doesn't help.

How does one set up this rig for 0-10v out of the BOB to the VFD. Need to understand Mach 3 setup screens ports and pins. I am missing something.
