Hi Gerry

I have a turret mill i am converting , and to have the screen origin match the machine home position" Visually "  means the table of the mill would be away from me and to the right , I was just wondering if it was possible to have   my machine home position ,table forward and to the left and the screen represent that .

Thanks Rob

Hi Hood ,,,,,,,,,,,,, the mill is a Chester 626 ,,,,,,I just thought BIGGER would be better  ;D  ,,, I was planning on fitting a stepper to  the knee and just locking off the quill .

After giving up on the motors i have ,, now on ebay  ;)  ,,,,,,,,,,,,, what about this set http://www.zappautomation.co.uk/three-axis-driver-kit-with-stall-detect-p-520.html  ,(anyone interested in a Denford Starmill  lol ),, what would be a good size/pitch of ballscrews to go with 12Nm motor driving the screw direct ?.

Is the some sort of calculation for working out these things ?

Cheers  Rob

Just be in the shop and hooked  up a motor and driver for a test  to  the computer i use to run my Denford mill at 25KHz  set the steps/per to 20000 ,and to my surprise it actually ran , velocity was down to 40 per/min  :o    ,,,,,,,, stuck a taco on the motor shaft got 2800 rpms   ,,,,,,,,,, so that a very poor 28 rpms at the gear box end LOL

I think these motors would probably be better suited to a fourth axis ,,,,,,,,,, back to the drawing board  ;D

Hi Hood

The driver dose have a half step setting ,,,,,,,, suppose i could go for 20mm pitch , that would give 700mm/pm rapid ,,, or use one for the Z axis and by two more for X and Y  :(

Hi Lads

I am thinking about converting my 626 mill to cnc ,,,,, i have two un-used 5 phase steppers (PK596BW1-H100) and drivers (UDK5114NW2)  ,,, the motors have 100:1 harmonic drives and going off what info i can fined on them looks like they have a max shaft  rpm out put of 35 RPMS

newer model but close ,, step angle on the ones i have is 0.0072 deg
http://catalog.orientalmotor.com/item/stepping-motors--1068/pk-series-5-phase-stepping-motors/pk596be1-h100?&plpver=11&origin=advsrch&by=prod&filter=0&categid=1068&prodid=3001062

Do you think they would be suitable to use for the X,Y axis of the mill with 10 or 16 mm pitch ball screws ?

Thanks Rob
