Im considering making an aditional axis for boring holes.

Basically a CNC controlled boring bar that allows the diameters to be changed fromt he Gcode

The way Im think is having the boring tip on an angled slide so as its moved down the tip moves out (away from the centerline).

The problem will be the z position will also move with the change in diameter.

Is there a way of linking the 2 axis so as the tip moves in/out a formula is applied to the z axis to keep it in the correct position.
 Is this possible with a Brain or is it going to involve some complicated Gcode????

General Mach Discussion / Swapped Machine position/G54 on Z axis

I had my CNC router all working fine until I went away for a week. Came back, booted the PC it ran for about 10 mins then the motherboard died :(

Anyway reinstalled everything on another PC and it all seemed to be working ok until I ran the same peice of code that I ran before I went away.

It slammed the z axis 16mm further into the work peice (luckily it was MDF)

I re-zero'd the z axis and it did the same thing again...

It seems when Im zero'ing it is changing the x & y on the G54 fixture but zeroing the machine coordinates on the Z, then when the program runs the 16m machine offset for Z appears in the G54???

Any ideas as it was all working fine on the last PC so Im completely confused...

Hi,

Unfortunatley Project Hurco got shelved :(  But I am looking at getting a Lumen Lab's router kit to satisfy my need for CNC milling/playing....

Anyway I rescued the CNC4PC interface board and a couple of rotary encoders so thought Its time I put them to good use.

Im making a fixture for measuring the profiles on Automotive Cam lobes.

Basically a driven chuck which turns the cam and a linear encoder ro record the data.

So Id like some advice from those that know far more than me about the best way to approach it.

Im think I need some VB code that looks for the rotary encoder on the chuck moving and when it does writes the positions of both this and the linear encoder to a text file so they can be opened in another software package for the data to be analysed.

Is it possible (im fairly sure it should be)

Is this the best way or is there a wonderful wizard/function that I can use without getting my hands too dirty in coding?

(and yes Mach 3 is overkill but eventually a linear axis can be added so the probe moves automatically from lobe to lobe for real lazy measuring)

Also, does anyone know how to read the output of a Mitutoyo or cheap chinese dial guage as this will save me having to get a linear encoder for the lift measurements....

I have another annoying issue that has me stumped...

I'm trying to tune the motors using the rutex software but i cant get a line on the graph.

I'm using rutex 2010 drives, electrmotion 80v dc servo drives and electrcraft 1000 lines single channel encoders.

When the drive is powered it resists turning but when I go to the test screen the motor just runs continuosly and doesn't sound right.

Also it randomly gives a spi comm error (22 this afternoon) and I have to reset the drive.

Does anyone have any ideas before I douse the whole thing in petrol and set light to it!!

(yes its slowly driving me mad....)

Also when I look at the diagnostics screen. Pins 1,2 & 3 are always lit for some reason.


I have turned off all input and outputs but they are still lit????

There is probably (hopefully) a very simple answer to this, I just dont know what it is!

I'm Using Mach 3 and a CNC4PC C11 Breakout board.


I want to use the relay on Pin 1 to turn the spindle control on, the relay on Pin 16 to set the direction and the 0-10v on pin 14 to control the speed.

I can get the speed output (all works fine) but I can't get the LED on pins 1 or 16 to light up.  I have tried other pins and they work fine and have checked pin 1 on the lead going into the board and that has 4.7v (and goes on and off as expected).

The voltage from the VFD into the common of the relays is 12v which should be fine.

Is there something else required to get these relays working or have I blown it up before I've started?
