General Mach Discussion / Re: Question on Xbox 360 Plug-In on Mach 3
« on: March 10, 2017, 11:41:51 PM »
Hi Ralph -
Thanks for your advice.  You are probably running a different M3 version than I am - just to be sure something didn't get inadvertently changed, I have re-downloaded the current version of Mach3 from the New Fangled website ( Version R3.043.066 ), installed it, and the screen comes up exactly like the one in my picture above.  I did try the Operator -> Edit Script function, but that button is not editable.  I did download the "OEM List Alpha 6.1" (Excel file) which appears to be a really comprehensive list of all the machine calls - its something I'm going to have to study and try and understand how to read/use it.  In the meantime, I'll just have to use my controller as is which is certainly not the end of the world.

Again, thanks for your help!

General Mach Discussion / Question on Xbox 360 Plug-In on Mach 3
« on: March 09, 2017, 02:42:01 PM »
Hi all -
I am a relatively new user to the CNC world and have recently completed the build of my CNC machine.  I have Mach3 installed and it is running very well.  I just added an Xbox 360 wireless controller (Lee Davis' Plug-in; Ver 2.4.1.0) and have most all the toggles/buttons mapped to the functions that I need.  The one function that I can't seem to find and need some help on is the "GOTO ZERO" button on the Run Screen (see below).  I use this function for repetitive start locations and would like it to be mapped to my "A" button on the game pad.  There does not appear to be a resident function in the dropdown selection box - unless its called something different - which is entirely possible and I'm not smart enough to figure it out.   :-\

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: Startup problem with Mach 4

Hi Steve -

Been a while since I got to post on this subject!  Well, My new (refurbished) pc came in and I have been busy setting it all up.  I have progressed from the old XP SP3 system to a Dell OptiPlex 780, 4GB RAM, running W10Pro.  I  now have both Mach3 and Mach4 installed and running with the Warp9 ESS motion controller.  I will probably spend this week evaluating Mach4 since its new and looks pretty complex.  So, it looks like my original issue no longer is a problem. Thanks to everyone who chimed in!

General Mach Discussion / Re: Pulse frequency way off

Scott -

I had the very same issue that I chased for weeks! Your video of the Driver Test looks exactly like mine did.  I too, performed a complete format and did a fresh install of XP including all the service packs.  Even went so far as to isolate the computer on a clean power line, all to no avail.  The only program that was loaded on my PC was Mach3.   Unfortunately, I was never able to isolate what was causing the wild variations in the program.  I finally gave up and bought an ESS from Warp9.  Installed it on the same computer and I haven't looked back.  Best $180 that I've spent on this project.

Hope this helps some.

General Mach Discussion / Re: 64bit ess mach3

From the Warp9 website (manufacturer of the ESS board):

Ethernet SmoothStepper Description
Please visit our Products Page for a detailed capabilities chart.
The Ethernet SmoothStepper (ESS) is a high-performance, 6 axis external motion controller for Mach3 and Mach4. Because it has a connector that conforms to the Parallel Port standard, it integrates seamlessly with most devices that the Parallel Port driver of Mach interfaces with. It accepts high-level commands from Mach and produces Step & Direction signals that are compatible with nearly all step & direction motor drivers (it also has a quadrature mode for high-end motor drivers, but those are not common). Because it is a dedicated hardware device, it is capable of producing pulses at very high frequencies and with extremely low jitter compared to the Parallel Port driver and microcontroller-based solutions. In addition, the SmoothStepper is able to run on any flavor of Windows, both 32-bit and 64-bit.

Mach will run under 32-bit or 64-bit, but an external controller such as the SmoothStepper is needed for 64-bit editions.

Latest update - as luck would have it, my old XP desktop went to the big PC roundup in the sky this morning  :'( bummer!!  Anyway, I have a replacement PC on order that's configured with an Intel dual core e8400 cpu, W10 Pro OS, and has 4 Gb of RAM.  Will update this thread when the new hardware comes in and I get it set up.

Thanks again.

Steve -

Thanks for your quick response.  I will check the print system and install the C/C++ Visual Studio files ( already got them from Microsoft).  Will let you know how it went.

Unfortunately, 2 GB ram is all the motherboard can access, so, I'm pretty well stuck there.....

Mach4 General Discussion / Startup problem with Mach 4

I am trying to evaluate whether to get licensed for Mach 3 or Mach 4.  My setup is as follows: Desktop Athelon 2600 ATX; running Windows XP SP3; 2 GB Ram; Nvidia 6200 Video card; SmoothStepper ESS.  I currently have Mach 3 installed and running perfectly and wanted to check out Mach 4 before committing to a license. When I install Mach 4, the installation window pops up stating that the installation was successful, However, as soon as I launch it, I get a window that pops up as seen below.  Any ideas?  Thanks for all the help!

PS - I attached a jpg but can't see it in preview mode - I'm hoping that y'all can view it!
