PoKeys / Re: Lathe - Quadature configuration and setup
« on: October 20, 2019, 08:15:59 AM »
The True RPM is now reading correctly. In tracing the encoder inputs by unplugging the PoKeys and the C78 boards from the motherboard and reinserting them the displays are now functioning properly. I contribute it to a bad connection on one of the boards.

Thanks Dale. I'm trying to rule out all variables.

Hi Dale,
Thanks a million. I will set up Pokeys the same as your configuration tomorrow and I hope that it works.
Thanks again.

Hi Dale,
That's good news. What Pokeys Device are you using? I am using CNC4PC M16D motherboard with a 57e board and I was just told that it has a configuration problem for the encoder inputs so I'm waiting for a answer from them. That would be great if you could send me your configuration setup and screen shots. Thanks.

Hi Dale,
I'm in the same boat as you in that I can not get the encoder, a AMT103, to display or process the RPM pulse in the ENCODER(Lathe) mode. I get very steady and very accurate reading in the INDEX(Lathe) mode only. I also get very clean A, B & INDEX scoped pulses on the RJ45_7 pins and have been trying PK Pins 8, 12 & 13 as shown in the Pokeys Manual. My next step is to hard wire the PK pins direct.

PoKeys / Lathe - Quadature configuration and setup
« on: September 23, 2019, 05:27:28 AM »
I have Mach4 & Pokeys up and running on a CNC4PC M16D board but I need an example of the proper PK Pin configuration. I get a true RPM reading when selecting the INDEX(lathe) but I get 1/2 the reading when selecting the Encoder(lathe). It seems that the ENC A & B pulses are not being processed. I have been using PK Pins 8, 12 and 13 but I don't think that I have them set up right.

General Mach Discussion / Wiring Power Supplies
« on: March 09, 2016, 03:31:57 PM »
I'm in the process of rewiring my Mach3 Lathe controller due to noise problems and I have a few questions:
1. Should I connect the 5 Volt and the 48 Volt negative returns together or leave the outputs floating?
2. Should the negative outputs be isolated from equipment grounds, like Pc, Lathe and controller which are grounded to the GREEN AC ground.
3. Is it better use an external 5 volt power supply for the BOB or is the USB input OK, PROS & CONS?
4. Is it wise to add EMI/EFI filter and if so where  should they be installed.
