I second this.
I was just bout to post the same thing as I have been looking at a cheap motor + driver that would work as a spindle.

Been thinking bout using Arduino or rather Teensy to do the same.
btw what bout using Teensy as an IO extender board? Or someone might have thought of that already.

I am not sure why you would say that Home is not capable of running dual core. The kernel is the same for both Pro and Home.

This is true however. Home is only licensed to run one processor (one socket) and Pro is licensed to run two processors(two sockets). Microsoft made it clear that the licensing is regarding physical processor and not the core/HT.

Where have you gotten this information that it would not work?
SP1 of Pro still works but SP2 added more features in regards to multi core/cpu operations. SP2 is reccomended.

True. The extra money does make a difference when building a hobby machine.
I am no programmer so I can't help out there.

Apart from controlling axis it might be interesting if the board could be used as universal input/output.
Meaning if the machine is already hooked up to the parallel port this card could be used as an extension for many more buttons, limit switches, relays etc.

Has no one else got the same problem. It does this every time i start mach.
If I play music the sound already in the buffer repeats itself until it is fed the next part of the song wich comes in due time.
Is is anything you want me to do to help you figure out the problem?
Or should i start a new thead with a flashier title?

btw the driver test does the same "black squares" that covers nearly the entire graph.
*edit* 1 second on the computer is exactly 10 real seconds.

The reason for using the paralellport it that it's simple to connect to and is always included. It is just now that it is starting to dissapear.
Mach now supports 100.000 pulses/sec

The G101 is 208$ from geckodrive and the G100 is 399$
I don't see that as extreamly high prices as you get something that is rigorusly tested and rock solid.
btw it has a step speed of up to 4MHz.

If you want to develop a board that works and is a lot cheaper I might buy it. I'm sure that Art would make the drivers work with mach.
The electronics forum at CNCZone is probebly a good place to start. There i a lot of people that knows their stuff there. And a few electrical engeneers.

If you mean integrate as into the popeline than it would probebly work.
I imagine that most cam software supports obj format for the solid model. Well at leas most 3D cam softwares.
A 2.5D image would be pretty easy to make from a 3D model as well.
I don't have any experience with any of this and I sort of learn as I go. I have been thinking of DAVID to run with mach when I get to build a CNC mill and router.

Maybe there is a way to cheat using DAVID and mach.

The object is scanned from 3 angels. -90, 0 and +90. The first part is then cut with mach, then rotate rhe workpeace -90* and cut with the proper depthmap. And then the same for +90*. Lots of aircuts tho.
The good part is that it costs nothing other than time to test.
And considering that you will learn a lot at the same time might make this a better invertment than a training course.

The biggest shortcoming I can see is that it is constant voltage only. Meaning you will loose tourqe at higher speeds quickly.
No microsteping means that you will get a very "steppy" motion that is not as smooth as with microstepping.
What motors do you have?
I'm no expert tho.

IIRC it can generate a depthmap based on what you are scanning.
You could just import that into mach. I think it will work directly or through a plugin.
As DAVID is only a 2.5D scanner that is really the only thing you will get out of it unless you do multiple scans and join them together with their non-free program.

Never looked at the one in your first link tho.
