Has your mill ever run?  Was it new or used?  If M3 is moving on screen, and the green and blue light are on on the UC-100, then it sounds like your cnc controller drive may be at fault.  I suggest you test with another computer with a parallel port.

Brand new - never ran.  I'll see what I can do IRT a computer with native parallel port.

Thank you for your help.

JNieman,
I'm now sitting at my UC-100 setup, and in M3 Ports and Pins >Port#1>Port Enabled is unchecked, as are all other settings on that page. The port numbers are irrelevant since you are using a USB connection.

In Motor Outputs, you need to have Step and Direction pins properly assigned, and Step and Dir Ports set to #1.

I have Kernel Speed set at 65,000, but I'm not sure it is effective with the UC-100.

On the UC-100, you should have both a green and a blue LED lighted up steadily.

Under M3>PlugIn Control, you should see "UC100 In/Out monitor", and clicking on it should open the UC-100 monitor.

I have Max step rate set to 50 kHz, and Index Prescale set to 1 (don'[t know what this is).

The Time counter should be rapidly changing in value.

Using the jog keys you should see some activity indicators change color as you jog the axes, and the X/Y/Z position values changing.

You should also see some color changes in Pin state monitors on the left side of the monitor page as you jog.

If your setup is different, then that's where you should focus attention,  I think.

I'm back in front of the machine again and I've followed these instructions and all my results are as you say.

Right now, with the machine (TAIG CNC Mill) turned on, everything plugged in, the motors are all powered, sitting idle, and while Mach 3 shows movement... the machine does not move.

So that's where I'm at now :/

I'm looking through to see if anything is out of the ordinary but I do not see how anything could be wrong.

Yes, I completely misunderstood the Port setup when using the UC100.  I will try things as suggested and see how that goes!

I appreciate the help.

Yes, the relevant pins all use port 1.

Does the actual pin # matter, or do I just need to ensure I'm using a input or output pin when appropriate?

Yes, I used the auto-installer that came with it.

I am able to select the UC100 when Mach3 starts up.  But the Port Address in the "Ports and Pins" dialog tab still shows 0x378 which I assume is incorrect?  If that is correct then something else is wrong, I guess.

I just received and set up a Taig CNC Mill, and because the laptop we are using for it has no printer port, we are using the suggested UC 100 controller driver adapter thing.  (I think that's the technical word)

I have everything showing up in Mach3 as it should, all the coordinate display and readout while attempting to jog, everything appears correct.  The only thing that appears to be stopping me is the port address.  I am almost certain this is where the break in communication occurs.

I can not ascertain the correct address to put into Mach3.  I have tried 0x387 as would be default for a parallel port.  When I pull up the UC100 USB Adapter in the Device Manager, it displays a line of jargon that looks like #Port.1000_Hub.2000 however that does not appear to be a format that is acceptable to Mach3, and when I copy/paste that in, it does not work.

I am unclear which pin numbers to assign to certain motions in the Config dialog, but I know for sure that I am clueless about the port address.

Has anyone been in similar shoes that might point me in the right direction?
