General Mach Discussion / Re: 3d 2 1/2d cam program
« on: January 11, 2013, 06:50:57 PM »
ShopCam is a relatively inexpensive program. I use it everyday at work. Its not Mastercam by any means but it does accept DXF files & Iges Files. I do beleive there is a post in it for mach 3 also. Dont hold me to that but im pretty sure..

General Mach Discussion / Spindle speed not follwing correctly
« on: January 03, 2013, 10:33:24 PM »
Hello all. I am new here so be patient please...

The problem I am facing is this...

My setup:
I have a South Bend Magna turn 612 Lathe being controlled by mach 3 with a c11 bob, c3 index board, a kbpb-125 dc spindle contoller, and a c6 spindle speed contol board w a perm. magnet dc servo motor from SEM...

My problem:
I have been playing with this for awile now... I have everything hooked up and mach shows the correct speed in the true spindle speed box (verified with a digital tach)... Ive adjusted the pot on the c6 board to so that when i command a max spindle speed i get a voltage out of 10.8 volts and when i command mach to half the max spindle speed i get 5.4 volts... okay... not perfect yet though... the rpm at max rpm and half the max rpm is good and accurate and follows what a command  but anything inbetween half rpm and max rpm is incorrect and half max rpm and zero is incorrect... :-\ ... If I understand correctly if I do a max spindle speed figure and test the voltage then match the output at half max rpm to be exactly half of the max rpm voltage then everything inbetween should follow in tandem... Am I missing something here.... Ive read about the debounce but if im getting accurate readings in the true rpm i would think i am good in that aspect...

One thing I want to note is the kbpb controller calls for a voltage from 0-9 volts to control the spindle... I have read elsewhere that the voltage is somewhat irrevalent as when commanded rpms are commanded the rpm at half the max rpm shoud be exactly half of that at max rpm...

Anybody out there with some insight I would greatly appreciate it...

I dont know what the t means.... just the way its on cnc4pc site...Well i got it figured out... i failed to mention i have ss board to... i checked the pwm box in the plugins section and my dpindle stared turning.... ;D... anyways now i have to tune the thing... my spindle uses a dc brushed servo motor with the kb drive... any pointers on the setup and tuning of all this would be greatly appreciated... thanks for thr reply also...

Hello All I am new to Mach 3 and retrofitting and this is my first project...

The Basics:
I bought a South Bend Magna Turn 612 to retrofit to mach 3 a month or so ago..
I gutted the electronics bought a computer and boards I needed and installed them...
I have my x and z axis moving with mach 3 after some fabricating of parts...

Now I am dealing with the spindle....(heavy sigh)....(argggghhhh)..... :-\

I have the c11t from cnc4pc and am attempting to connect to a c41 pwm board from cnc4pc... I know I will probably hear that the c11t has that board basically built into it and i know this (or I think I do)... anyways I had other plans for the two relays on the c11t for coolant and tool turret and wanted to keep the spindle board seperate from my axis board... So its been three or four days and 10 pots of coffee and I need help... I cannot get the mach 3 settings correct for the two board to communicate... I think i have tried every combination of things in port/pins, motor tunung, spindle setup, etc., etc... The spindle motor drive is an older kb electronics , KBPB series, and came with the machine...

Anybody up for helping a newb with his first project???

Please tell me someone out there has retrofitted one of these machines??? (I cannot be the only one I hope...)

If you need more info as im sure you will please ask... I will provide...

Thank you
