General Mach Discussion / Re: Homing and grounding
« on: June 08, 2013, 02:12:31 PM »
The building is cool and the motors do not get hot. The machine will have this issue when it has been off for days as well, I am going to install a ground rod today to see if this will fix the issue since it should be done this way anyways and report back.

Thank you.

General Mach Discussion / Homing and grounding

I have an 5' x 10' cnc plasma made by http://www.ldrmotionsystems.com/ with torch height control and a hypertherm 45 plasma. I do not have the table grounded. The issue is when trying to set the home the gantry will touch the home switch and not back off the machine. If I try to cut the machine does not stay on path and can be eratic. This has started again, I have been cutting for the last 6-7 months with no issue. It seems it could be weather related since the weather is warmer here in Vancouver BC now and i havent had this issue since late summer last year. When I move the gantry the motors will have a different sound when it is not homing properly. If I leave the machine off for a few hours it seems to home and work properly for a short time. Could this be a grounding issue?

Thank you in advance.

Marko :)

I went into the cut profile and changed the arc okay current to zero. This allows the machine to move without trying to initiate the plasma to cut.

thank you for all your help.

Thanks again for your help. Mach 3 will not move with the plasma off, it waits for the cut to initiate. Strange that you cant simply run through the program with out cutting, like a trial mode. Do you know where I can turn the spindle on and off? That sounds like the simplest option.

Looking to run my cnc plasma using a pen for drafting. Is there a mode to trial the drawing as to do this as well as trial to ensure the drawing will fit on the cutting area?

General Mach Discussion / How to Dry Run/Trial Run
« on: March 26, 2013, 02:08:16 PM »
I have a 5'x10' CNC plasma controlled by Mach3. I would like to put a pen in place of the plasma torch and be able to draw/check templates ect. I have looked through the Mach3 manuals and support site and can not find anything. Seems like it should be a simple thing to do....Your help is appreciated.

When in Mach3 and the reset button is activated, the motors will move slightly when opening a new file or closing an existing file causing the table to go slightly out of square. When pressing the reset button it will also move the motors. All three motors seem to move. It is slight though the table needs to be homed each time to keep it in square. Could this be noise? Table is grounded to the control panel. Can a local ground rod make a difference? Thank you for your help.
