PoKeys / Re: pokeys57cnc remote buttons
« on: January 23, 2019, 10:16:08 AM »
Hi RickmColorado

it all been taken apart, will have to try this from memory.

lets say you need to rig up a button to turn the coolant on. first, find a free pin on your 57cnc board (pin 15 for e.g)
take the wire from one side of your button and connect it to any ground pin. the wire from the other side of the button goes to pin 15.

startup Mach3, in the plugins tab select pokeys config, when running select Pokeys mapping. on the left had side you should see a list of pins, scroll down to pin 15. in the next tab (function) select input. LED tab, scroll down till you find "Flood cooling" (think its number is 013) close down Pokeys config.

On the mach3 screen find the flood coolant LED. push your button, this should turn that LED on and off.
you would then to set a relay to turn on when the LED turns on to start your pump.

hope this helps.

Looks like you  can't  run a 57cnc and a 57u board under mach3 at the same time.

The 57cnc can be run and set up by the plugin. But the 57u board runs in the background when Windows boots. Is then set  up by polabs software as a key logger.

Still don't know why the relays are turning off after  a few seconds.

Not to sure what im doing here so I'd thought id ask..

Was said in another topic that you could run the cnc machine with the 57cnc and then have a 57u to run as a keylogger/ more pins out/in. I also needed more relays. if i plug the PoRelay8 into the 57cnc using the 5wire connector. I can control the relay board with mach, by using the pokeys plugin configure. If i do the same with the 57u board, I cant control it using the pokeys plugin. Cant even see it.

would i be right in thinking I would use the 57cnc + PoRelay8 together under mach. Then have the 57u board running in the background as a keylogger. Or is there a way to connect all 3 boards together and run them all under mach?

Also, when the 57cnc and the PoRelay8 are together, I cant get the relays on the relay board to stay on. Lets say...... if i use the relay on the 57cnc board to run the coolant the relay will come on and only turn off when i press the coolant button again. If i do the same, but use one of the relays on the PoRelay board, the relay will turn on, but will turn its self of after 5 seconds or so.

thanks in advance,

yep, that what i was hoping for,

use the 57cnc board to run the machine, motors, spindle, encodes, mdi's etc then use a 57U board for the buttons (keyboard emulator) and some macros.

I have been trying to do this with a tool changer. on Mach i have put in 8 more buttons 1,2,3 etc to one of the screens for the tool changer. you click on the button and the tool changes. but when i have tried to do this using the 57cnc it works a few times then it goes all funny. as in, it will go through the motions of the tool change two or three times. after a while mach will slow down then stop.

the button is done by the a quick key. pressing "1" will run "code t0101" pressing "2" code t0202 etc. the 57cnc board is set input pin16 "press the 1 key". dont know if this is right or wrong, but as i said it works a few times, then goes funny.

Hi Neo,

thanks for the link, makes a bit more sense now.
also found a .pdf on the pokeys web site. that explained how it was done. it was just called Pokeys.pdf and not pokeys57cncmanual.pdf. like i thought it would be called. silly me.

and it turns out it was just as simple as grounding out a pin and telling said pin what to do.

next thing is to see if you can setup a 57cnc to run the main bits and then have a 57u running all the buttons.

hi all,

Just got me self a 57cnc board for a lathe project, I have worked out (well think i have) axis,e-stop and the relays etc. But one thing is getting me. is how do you rig up a button to the 57cnc board.
e.g you have a control panel with a load of buttons on it. How do you connect the to the 57cnc board. so when you push one the coolant starts etc.

i have spent many many hours over the last week looking this up and can't find anything. i have found people that have done it, but they dont show you how. they just show them pushing a button on the panel and something out of shot clicks.
the manual says you can get a matrix keypad, but doesn't show you how to connect it to the board. it only shows how to program it once the matrix board has been connected. if i could find out how to connect a matrix board to the 57cnc. i could take the buttons off and put them somewhere else. it would be a pain, but do able. would much prefer to wire the buttons up like i have seen other do, but with the pokeys57u board.

or am i missing something. is it as easy as finding a pin.... lets say pin17. place wire from ground to button. wire from button to pin17. then telling the57cnc board what to do with it.

thanks in advance.

i've sorted it  ;D...... well the bloke who i got it from did ;D ;D

you enter M3000 in the old MDI bit and you get a pop up. it says "press enter to index (9=ccw 0=cw) or you just type in the tool number that's in the cutting position and away you go.

i have also ticked  tool numbers persistent option, so now it remembers what ever the last tool was when i turn mach off.

thx for your help :)

yep done that as well  :(

t0101 tool 6 comes round, type in tool 6, turn it all off. type in t0101 "already got it" toll six still there.

i have seen this "tool numbers persistent option on General Config" mentioned in other threads, but as im at work at the mo i cant nip off to the man cave and have a look.

hi Hood,

had a look at your vid last night about how to setup tool offsets. great vid....... that's one headache down :)

i have tried that as in T0606 (tool 1 comes into play) then change the DRO to 1. then type in T0101 it should say "already got it", but it changes to tool 6 again.

think your right about the turret, as in it's just counting.

hi all,

just got me a converted (mach3 turn) Boxford 240tcl lathe, with an 8 tool turret.

all was going well (ish) until i shut it all down, had some grub then turned it all back on an hour or so later.

it seems to have forgotten what tool is ready to cut. i.e you mdi T0101 and it says "tool is already in position" but tool 4 is there. you type in T0606 and you get tool 1......... and so on.

i have spent many hours looking all over the net to sort this and the only thing i have found is "you need to calibrate the turret" but i cant find out how to do that.

one thing i do remember, is when i first got it going, i got a pop up in mach that asked "what tool position" i looked at the turret and entered in the tool that was in the cutting position. guess i need that pop up to come back, but i can't get it :-(

any ideas?

thx
