General Mach Discussion / Plasma Anti-dive function. Seems not to work
« on: August 29, 2013, 05:51:22 PM »
Hello,

Recently read a post about the Mach3 Anti-dive function. http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php/topic,16169.0.html

But it seems not to work just like BR549 said. Even programming it to 100% of the actual feedrate, the machine still move the Z axis up and down during the cut by the THC.

Someone with experiencie with this command?

Added it to my Plasma Screen, seems to be a nice feature to have if it works. Attached the screen for convenience.

Thank you,

In my case it wont happen, because my machine is a plasma CNC.

UPS is wired only to the CNC controller, not the plasma cutter itself. Plasma cutters have high current needs, so a UPS for it would be too expensive. After the power outage, the plasma ARC OK signal stops, and the CNC stop the cut. So I can start again from that point after the power back, any time because the DRO was saved after MACH 3 closes and save the XML.

With other kind of machines as a mill, yes, it would be a bigger problem.

Thank you,

Thank you for the explanation. Didn´t know that. Will rely on an UPS for the PC.

Hello,

Is there any way DROs saving in case of a power outage?

For example: the DROs only save if you quit Mach3. While the cycle is running, or jogging or at feedhold, and the there is a poweroutage, the DRO don´t come back at the same value.

This is very bad if you are cutting a piece, like I do with my plasma cnc. Have to zero the machine again (need to remember the last zero) and then send the machine to the last cut.

Using Mach3 R3.043.066.

Use of a UPS was my best idea, but if there is a way, it would be great.

Thank you for any reply.

Hello,

I have a plasma machine, working fine, with a digital THC developed by me.

But sometimes I would like to simulate the machine path, without the plasma torch to fire.

Today the only way I can do it is turning the plasma power off, THC Off and then I can run the program to see if fits inside the material, or if anything else will work fine before the cut.

Is there a method to inhibit the M3 command, and then simulate the path with machine movement?

At this forum there is a great tool (mach3toolbox plasma check if material fits) for checking if material fits, but I would like to run the complete program without plasma torch to firer.

Thank you for any help.

Thanks for the reply,

The task bar is hidden and locked for the operator, so he cannot see the time.

But not a problem, will give him wirst watch :-)

Thank you,

Hello,

Cannot find a Clock (windows time) DRO in any funton list.

Can it be done, insertion of a simple time clock in a screen?

Thank you!

Thanks for the reply. I think that what you made is exactky the same thing that Longevity plasma did. They claim to have a pilot arc plasma, and indeed they have, just like your machine they use a wire to ground the Tip ( not shown, but think its it). The price is very like a chinese price. They claim to work with CNC as well, but there is a video in their forum showing how to install their machines in a Torchmate CNC table. Seems to be a lot of problem with the HF, as they show how to properly ground the system because of the HF interference issues. Will try this on my CNC and CUT40 just like you did. Lets see if I get interference like they had or if your tip ground eliminates the HF just like in your machine. Again, thank you for sharing your ideas.

Hello, very nice project, will test into my CNC and CUT40 cutter.  Question: connecting the tip to earth wouldn't destroy the tip if you trigger the torch away from the plate? I think that making the way you did, the plasma beam will cut the tip itself? Thank you for sharing your project!
