Thanks for the tip I'd be very interested to hear how your build works out for you. Thanks

Thanks, I'm in the US though. I run Mach 3 now on a Romaxx WD-1 but i want to get something a lot more rigid so i can run higher speeds. I really like Mach and have post processors that work with my software and would like to stay with that if possible.

Ok thanks, that will be a good start.

I'm looking to buy a new router and have grown very fond of my Mach 3. I did a search and have come up with very little. I know there is EZ router but are there any other reputable companies out there.

Ok thanks guys, now that I know it's possible the research begins.

Ok thanks. my biggest concern is having a way to fire the head if I have to stop mid program which happens a lot. i would also have to figure a way to manually fire the head if need be. I've read you can add macro's into mach 3 as a button to do this.

General Mach Discussion / Question about possible mach 3 project machine?
« on: December 01, 2011, 11:26:11 AM »
Hi guys, just so you guys know I'm not a builder of machines but I do run numerous cnc machines for a living in a fab shop. So we can pretty much build anything we want but the tech side is completely oblivious to me as far as motors and stuff goes. I recently bought a small cnc router that uses Mach 3. So far, I've been quite impressed with what it can do.

My question is I'm considering my first build but I'd like to build a waterjet machine. My question is will the mach 3 interface be able to handle a 2 axis machine, the Z axis I do not need programmable. I could have a random drive motor I would think. But I would need home and limit switches as well as a way to turn on my mini hopper for abrasive and the waterjet head using mac valves as they run off air. Since I've been using mach 3 for a while now i have a pretty good understanding of how it works. I guess my question is, can this be done and where should I start as learning about what motors and stuff I would need. I know there is a ton of research to be done but this would be like a year long project for me.

I guess my main question is can mach 3 handle all those switches and motors.

I found the thread for newbies building machines gonna start there.
Anyone on here use Mach 3 for a waterjet machine?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

General Mach Discussion / Re: Jogging strangeness

Let me rephrase that:

I'm not entirely sure I grabbed the right xml. When i installed mach3 I copied the xml that Ron Rogers provided me to the mach 3 folder. It was called Mach3mill.xml. The file I attatched is the same mach3mill.xml file but it's from the mach 3 folder now after I have used the program a few times, but the size has doubled. I had to rename it to attatch it in this post since the original poster had the same file name. So I'm pretty sure it's the correct file as that is what is listed in the bottom right corner when I run Mach 3 but i don't understand why it is so much larger than the original file.

Yes I do have physical start and feed hold buttons on my machine. i also have 2 110v outlets that Ron has told me could act as a trigger to start a router as well.

I also do not have encoders or a MPG. I'm not sure how plugin's work as i only had to copy the mach3mill.xml file provided by Ron ROgers to my mach3 folder to get it working. I download Mach 3 right from this site.

i hope that helps.

Hi Hood thanks for the fast response. Here is my XML. I have a Romaxx wd-1 as well. I don't have encoders like the previous poster. I believe they call my system a open loop system, I also do not have the mpg wheel like the previous poster. What's happening for me is that when I boot Mach 3 my machine seems to work fine until I try and use the step jog  mode. Once I try that, all jog moves become unresponsive even if I switch it back to continuous.

But after reading this thread I have found that when I turn on my machine and mach 3, all I have to do is hit stop and things function like they should. Before that I was stuck when the machine became unresponsive but now that I know how to fix it it isn't such a big deal.  I'm not sure why I have to hit stop or even if this is a normal function. But I saw someone earlier had mentioned it and it works for me as well. I know you made some changes for the other poster and was curious if those same changes would apply to me.

Thanks
