General Mach Discussion / Re: Contouring

Here a photo I found of a Ukulele handle I did in V22. For 3D V22 is not bad....but it is still not quite right

Jeff your really going to need more than one software or a plug-in mod. You need the main cad/cam for surfacing the curve to a guitars. But for Inlay you may want to look at V-Carve Pro.

Before you think about buying BobCAD/CAM, you should go to CNC Zone and read all the posts from disgruntled customers.
Before you belief half of what is posted on the cnc zone look who post it. ...yes V22 is still a little messed up but V21 is a very stable program and at a good price. They have a sale now for $500 I bet you could get it for $350. . it not mastercam but look what you pay just for basic mastercam.Ya the sale force is a total joke.
As a matter of fact I will be installing a new Tormach in Boston week after next. For software I recommended (and sold to them) that they go with Visual Mill Pro for the cad/cam office and two seat of V21. one to keep at the machine and the other in the machine shop office. I charge them $450 for 2 seat of V21. Visual Mill Pro was $4K. In the last year there have only been 2 jobs I need advanced 4th axis. Both time Visual Mill handle them nicely. But at $4K you can't buy many seats. Most cam programming done is 2 1/2 axis. I bet 75% of the total cad/cam market has never cut a 3d part . But I must say that Mach and the Tormach have done some wild 3d contouring for me. Art and you guy did a great job with Mach. Greg Jackson and his team have got it running very nicely.  [/size]

you can do 3D contour in Bobcad V21 for short money $300-$500 depends on deal you push for. It does do an OK job. just takes a while to learn. for a few bucks  more you can add bobart it is a good little program for the price. I will admit that I am a resellers of bobcad but do not push it.

Thanks for the reply I did not think it really matter

What should you set the diameter setting when programming and ellipse on The 4th axis. Attached is a Jpeg of part and stock. Not quite sure if I want to use the largest cylindrical diameter or some thing in the middle? The questionable cut is the profile around part
Thanks,
Mike

there are many type of cad/cam out there. Dolphin is a good package from what I hear for the price. You really need to decide on what type pakeage you need. Are you looking for just 2d or 3d. are you looking to do art type files. Do you need a full blow cad system for doing solids ect.
There are big price changes with the feature you either want or need.
I will say that I would not buy Bobcad V22 at this time. The system is still unstable and buggie. But I will say the V21 is a very good version for the money. You can do 3d and solid cad work. I have seen it sell for as little as $300/USD

General Mach Discussion / Re: New Mach Post for Bobcad V22

I took the latest Mach 3 no auto tool change post and did some editting. I call this my "Touch and Go" post. there are no height offset, G28 moves and only a few comment. I use this for my one tool operation.Set up is fast just touch top of part, set Z zero, back off, cycle start. At a tool change just reset Z zero and your good to go. Personal I don't always use tool leinght offset. If I'm running my Tormach on a production part. it is some times faster to change out part, than doing a tool change.
There are two post attached they both post the same G and M code. But the predator post is set up to output for solid verify in predator. so after I verify in peradotor, I just repost for machine (then you don't have all the comments if your in single block to click thru).

Below please find an e-mail I recieved today from Scott Phillips. He is Bobcad's contact person for post issue. Pleas note at the bottom where he is asking me to pass along his contact info, to any person using Bobcad V22 for Mach. If you have any posting issue please feel free to contact him

Mike,
I have made the following changes to the Mach Posts; for the:
Mach3 (v22 052908).exe
Mach3-Metric (v22 052908).exe
In all canned-cycles the G80 will output on separate line prior to the
rapid move Z retract.
An M01 (optional_stop) has been added after the return to home (G28 Z0.)
and before the toolchange.
In the Predator Header the DIAM_OFFSET has been added to correctly comp
tool in corresponding code.
Mach3-NoATC (v22 052908).exe
Mach3-NoATC-Metric (v22 052908).exe
Download the post and install. Please contact me via email with any
questions or post modifications. Also, I know that you are active on all
the CNC industry support forums. Feel free to direct anyone my way, who
may be having BobCAD post processor issues.
