General Mach Discussion / Re: Problem with Mach3
« on: December 29, 2013, 10:06:19 PM »
No Joy on the card re-install.  Did it multiple times.  Even used drivers from the manufacturer.  MACH3 just doesnt want to keep communicating with the card after the PC is restarted.  I plan on purchasing a new card that others have had success with.  Syba PCI PP card, #SP-LP-MCS1P

Well like I am experiencing nothing is simple with CNC.  I have removed and reinstalled the card 6 times.  The outcome was the same each time. Windows recognizes the card assigns it the same addresses.  I used drivers from the manufacturer.  I typed in the hex address and also let MACH3 assign the address.
No change.  MACH3 will not communicate.  I did note that if I just uncheck the use pins 2-9 as inputs and recheck it MACH3 communicates until I restart the PC.
I am just thinking there is something odd with this card from CNC4PC that is not compatible.
I'll buy the card Syba PCI PP card, #SP-LP-MCS1P which you recommended.

Rich,
Seems the consensus to remove and re-install.  I'll give that a shot and see if it works.
Thanks !

I am new to the forum but not to CNC.  I have been running my home built CNC router using Linux for about 4 years.  Decided to switch to Mach3 to be able to use my 4 axis rotary.  Linux didnt like the 4 axis so much.  I use my mill to do woodworking like signs, inlays furniture etc.  I use V Carve to generate and post my tool paths.  I started posting in the forum to help with the Mach3 installation.  Its good to be around individuals with so much CNC knowledge.

Scrambled /Hood
Not sure if this helps but I am having the exact same issue with my system running XP.  The computer sees the port configured but Mach3 will not save it.  I can change the address in Mach3 and then back again and it works until I reboot the PC.
I now enough about computers to be dangerous.  Could it be related to how XP handles IRQ or DMA settings.  I have never seen this discussed in the forums.

John
Thank you for the information.
In my case there is a parallel port (LPT1) on the motherboard I am using for the steppers.  The second is the PCI parallel port.
I entered the address as CD00 and let Mach3 change it to the hexadecimal equivalent.  I will try to enter the hexadecimal address directly to see if it matters (0xcd00).
Also XP did recognize the card and lists the I/O address.  I just cant figure out why Mach3 doesnt want to keep the address.  Is the address listed in the XML file.  Can I go there and change it directly?

General Mach Discussion / Re: CNC router power supply question
« on: December 26, 2013, 04:31:41 PM »
The low tech answer is that both should work at providing 48V at about 7 amps.  Technically I have had switching power supplies that have generated noise and interfered with a 5V signal for my system.  I would look closely at the sustained current output (not just max) and P-P noise ratio (should be in volts in the specs) when evaluating both of these.  Choose the one with the longest sustained current output and provides the least amount of noise (lowest value).
Hope this helps.

General Mach Discussion / Mach3 and second parallel port card
« on: December 26, 2013, 03:57:09 PM »
I have been having issues with a second PCI parallel port card.  I purchased the card from CNC4PC along with a MPGand the C22 card.
I installed the card on a Gateway PC runnning windows XP.  The device manager shows the card installed and working.  Device manager shows 2 I/O address, CD00 and D480.  I have tried both with odd results.
When I entered the first address clicked apply Mach3 did not communicate with the card.  I then tried the second I/O address and clicked apply and this did not work either.  I then went back and input the first I/O address click apply and magically it worked.  At least until I restarted my PC and then it did not work.  I used the CNC4PC support forum but Arturo was not able to help.
I have read many of the previous posts and never saw this issue.  Does anyone have experience with this or a similar issue.  Any help would be appreciated.  ???

Third party software and hardware support forums. / Jog Pendent
« on: December 13, 2013, 05:30:46 PM »
I just installed and configured a MPG2 jog pendent from CNC4PC.  I cant seem to get the pendent to communicate with Mach3.  I installed and enabled the brains and configured per the instructions.   Is there a good way to test weather the LPT2 is working.  The PC device hardware say its good with no conflicts.  I see output #6 is the LED.  However the Led on the pendent is not lit.  Any help would be appreciated. :(
