dspMC/IP Motion Controller / Re: OEM Buttons Not Working
« on: August 14, 2012, 11:42:54 PM »
Thank-you very much Mike.

I have since used the OEM triggers initiated via a simple brain as Mike suggested. All buttons are now working correctly when a program is running and idle.

I am still having difficulty with the machine co-ordinates auto zeroing, however there are ways i can work around this.

dspMC/IP Motion Controller / OEM Buttons Not Working
« on: August 03, 2012, 03:35:42 AM »
Hello All,

I am currently in the final stages of completing an old mill retrofit, however i am having trouble with OEM Buttons.
The mill is very old and is using a Glentek driver for the Z axis, Baldor drivers for the X and Y. So old infact the first thing i did was remove the ticket tape reader.

Since i have found the use of usb controllers unreliable for commercial use i have wired a series of switches to the control panel of the mill. The switches are wired into the digital inputs on my 7762 breakout board and straight into the dspmc. Their operation has been confirmed and is visible in Plugin controls, as well as the Mach3 diagnostics screen. Currently i am using the OEM Triggers for my inputs and have inputted the correct codes from MachWiki into the system hotkeys for each trigger.

The problem i am having is that the switches and OEM buttons act as they should provided a program is not running. Once a program is running the buttons are unresponsive except for the Emergency Stop thank-god.This is undesirable for me as i need to be able to pause and stop the program at the control panel as well as adjust the feedrate on the fly. Below is a list of the buttons i am trying to use and what i believe are the appropriate OEM codes.

Cycle Start (1000)
Feed Hold (1001)
Feed + (108)
Feed - (109)
Cycle Jog Mode (245)
Cycle MPG 1 Axis (175)

Another issue i am having is with my MPG wheel. I have wired an MPG wheel as a hard encoder and it works as expected. However when i press reset to stop what i am doing and then press it again to begin, Mach3 resets the machine co-ordinates and DRO's to 0 for the axis i have selected and occasionally gives a following error.

If anyone has experienced a similar problem or could shed some insite on the issues above, it would be greatly appriciated.

Cheers and Thank-you.

dspMC/IP Motion Controller / Re: Saving Softlimits
« on: December 04, 2011, 04:48:59 PM »
Hi Mike,

My softlimits certainly do work with the DSPMC however i just can't save them. However as long as i don't turn the DSPMC off or restart Mach3, my machine certainly responds to any softlimit that i set.
Has anyone been able to make a macro to update their softlimits eachtime Mach3 is started or the like there of?
Thank-you for your input.

dspMC/IP Motion Controller / Saving Softlimits

Hello fellow DSPMC & Mach3 users,

I recently posted this topic in the general Mach forum and with the help of 'Hood' discovered an issue relating to the saving or altering of mach 3's default softlimits.
I am using mach3 and the dspmc to operate a 3 axis hotwire cutter.
*My problem is, that i can not save softlimits in Mach 3. I have tried saving the profile, starting a new profile and modifying the xml code, all to no avail. When the softlimits are changed and Mach3 is shutdown or the dspmc disconnected the softlimits set in mach3 revert back to there default values of 100 and -100.
*I have installed mach3 on a comp not connected to the dspmc and have no trouble saving the softlimits.
Has anyone experienced this before?
Can anybody help?
Your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

General Mach Discussion / Re: Saving Softlimits
« on: November 29, 2011, 12:25:49 AM »
Thank-you for the reply Hood.

I have check to see if the xml's are read only and they're not.
To be clear, i have tried config>homing/limits (changed limits)>save settings
Upon exiting Mach3 and returning the limits are reset to 100 and -100.
I also tried modifying the xml in notepad. I am able to save the new limit values, however when i start Mach3, again they are reset back to 100 and -100.
I have attached my current xml file.
If you could have a look, i would really appriciate it.

Cheers mate!

General Mach Discussion / Saving Softlimits
« on: November 28, 2011, 01:19:17 AM »
Hello Mach 3 Community,

I am running Mach 3 to operate a 3 axis hot wire cutter, and have noticed that on resetting Mach 3 the default softlimits always revert back to their default value. As the machine is dedicated to its global dimensions, I would like to be able to set values for the softlimits other than the defaults.
I have tried several different methods of saving, and modifying code in the profile files, however the values still always reset to default ie. 100 and -100.
Do i need to write a macro to overcome this issue, and if so how do i go about achieving this?
Any help would be greatly appriciated!
Thank-you :)

General Mach Discussion / Curve smoothing, CV, and processing.
« on: August 26, 2011, 03:19:53 AM »
Hi Guys,

I have been doing research on curve smoothing in general and the constant velocity function in Mach 3. I have read the CVSettings document however it does not provide a lot of detail on any of the processes.

1). First of all, does anybody have a general understanding of curve smoothing or constant velocity functions and how they actually work?
Does Mach 3 interpolate curves between separate points, or does it fit a curve between multiple points.
Or am i totally off track and its achieve some other way?

2). Is curve speed limited by motor acceleration and tolerance only or can it be limited by computer processing speeds? Are there any other factors affecting these speeds?

3). Has anybody looked into interpolatory compensation and look-up tables for compensation of sagged axis? If so, could you please enlighten me with your knowledge.

4). I would like to thank the entire Mach 3 community for such a plethora of user knowledge and genuine interest.

Cheers  :D

dspMC/IP Motion Controller / DSPMC errors???
« on: May 25, 2011, 03:49:03 AM »
Hi,

I posted a problem on the forums some time ago and recieved a detailed reponse which i am extremly greatfull for, however i am still getting an error that states;
M3dspmc
Error Downloading Encoder Polarity. Download Aborted
Error downloading Config data. Retry?
This error will appear whether peripherals are plugged into the dsmpc or not. As long as the dsmpc is connected to the computer via ethernet the error exists. It triggers the emergency stop and does not allow me to modify many things including the Motor tuning menu. I have checked firmware and plugin version and everything is compliant in this department.
Any light anyone could shed on this matter would be greatly appriciated! And thank-you! =)

Have a great day.

Hey Guys,

Just recieved my DSPMC with firmware Rev7762/6.25 and Plugin M3dspMC.dll.
I have set-up the Mach 3 interface and integrated the DSPMC by copying the .dll file into the Mach 3 plugin folder. I have attached the DSPMC to Mach 3 via the ethernet port and router and it is showing that it is connected. No equipment is attached to the inputs/ouputs however i thought it best to test the analogue signals +/- 10V before doing so. I have followed the instuctions outlined in the set-up manual to a tee, however an error message keeps popping up that states; Error Download Encoder Polarity. Download aborted. & Error downloading config data. Retry?  ???
This error comes up intermetantly every 10 seconds and triggers an emergency stop, thus ceasing functionality of Mach 3. Will these error messages cease once encoders are attached? Or is there something I've possibly overlooked.
Also, we have a total of 7 encoders on our machine. 4 from the servo drivers and 3 for axis. Mach 3 only supports 4 encoders. Will i have to write brains to integrate the other encoders as inputs on the digital I/O board? Mach 3 also only supports 2 channel encoders whereas the servo driver encoders have 3 channels.
A similar problem was experienced by member "dresda" however a solution to the errors was never discussed.
Any help that anyone could offer would be greatly appriciated.

Thank-you in advance to everyone.  :)
