As some people have asked for the working Brains attached in the "VFD Brains_working.zip" are both Brains VfdRun.brn and VfdSpeed.brn also have attach the screenshots from the Brain editor for each of the Brains.

Update

Got it working today. The Brains worked with no problems. Our mayor problems beside the ones about the VFD Manual not right about the coils offsets was a cheap Chinese USB to RS485 converter we have tried another converter which worked but also gave use Blue screens of death as well. which also had the same chip set as the Commfront adapter both share the same chip and driver. The variation in performance is therefore not centered around these components rather other areas of difference between the two devices. The Commfront device seems to offer additional features including opto-isolation, static protection and in built 120 ohm terminating resistors.

This adapter - worked faultlessly. http://www.commfront.com/USB-Serial-Adapters-Converters/Isolated-USB-RS232-RS485-RS422-Converter.htm

Thank you  to all that Helped

Greg

I split the post up to keep the post to their dedicated discussion topics so the it easier for other people find when they look for resolution  to their problems.

Thanks for the tip will try it out on the weekend  on the coil addressing.

Also when writing to a Holding Registers I can write to one register at a time if I try to do anymore I get a timeout error in Test ModBus this is a probable solution to your problem in setting Holding Registers.

Brains Development / Help with Modbus I/O with Brains

Can someone help and tell me where I' going wrong

Here are my ModBus Configuration Screen

Also I have tested thought the <Test ModBus> button I'm are able to read and write to Coils and Holding Registers but when the brains a running they don't update the VFD coils or Holding Registers.

Also included the two brains VFDrun and VFDspeed screen Snap shoots

I think my problem is when I add the ModBus input or outputs as seen in the Add input screen shot

I'm no sure what setting to us for the following

Enter ModBus Address to use?
I know it's an output when it's and output and input then it's an input
Source?

I have tried all different settings

I have also read the Users_Guide_for_Brains

I think this is where I'm getting stuck is on the follow passage

Quote
ModBus: this is where the money shot is, here you enter the ModBus address to use this is the Local Address starting at 0, (unless in the TCP
config you told it to start at a different Local address for that Cfg). Local Address “0” corresponds to your first “starting
address” of your external device for that Cfg.

As my slave is node 1 and the Address is 0001h for the coil or 001h for the Holding Register why do enter in 0 and when I do it doesn't work ?

Any help would be much appreciated

Modbus / Hitachi SJ200 and ModBus Control Problems
« on: January 17, 2011, 08:53:47 AM »
I have being trying to get the Hitachi SJ200 VFD working with ModBus and a Spindle. I have the unit working with no problems with the keypad, start stop the spindle and any speed set with the pot. Now if I connect it by ModBus with in Mach3 Config ModBus the <Test ModBus> I'm able to write and read both Coils and Holding Registers with no problems except when issue the coil 0001h Run command and the 0002h Direction Command the VFD goes into Alarm mode. and needs to be reset to clear the Alarm code.

The only Settings change are A001 and A002 to 03 so that it's now using ModBus and the 485 switch has been selected.

SJ200 VFD Settings
A001 = 03   Frequency Source Setting
A002 = 03   Run Command Source Setting
A003 = 400  Base Frequency Setting
A004 = 400  Maximum Frequency Setting
A044 = 00   V/f Characteristic curve Selection
A082 = 220  AVR Voltage Select
C071 = 06   Communication Speed Selection
C072 = 1    Node Allocation
C074 = 0    Communication Parity Selection
C075 = 1    Communication Stop Bit Selection
C076 = 02   Communication Error Selection
C078 = 50   Communication Wait Time

Any help would be much appreciated

I get a time out when trying to write to the holding registers with the "Test Modbus" dialogue.

Have you tried 19200 Baud (C071 = 06) as I was getting some timeouts with 9600 and all went away with 19200. You can also try the (C078 = 50)   Communication Wait Time. and Much later you can try the RS485 Termination Resistors

Can't help with the alarm.  Does it trip when using the panel, if you turn the pot right up, then hit start?

We had a problem with that in the beginning but by setting (A044 = 00) fixes that. So the Spindle run from keypad and pot with no problems at all.

Did you remember to flip the dip switch to 485 ?

Yes

Have you tried C076  02-disable?

I think so will try when I next get to see the Mechmate Machines There's a lot of flood water between me and the Machine and getting worst  (Wonders of living in Brisbane, Queensland Australia)

What setting did you use for C077 ?

Left it at default

Modbus / Re: Hitachi X200

2 Questions?

A little bit of history
We have the 2x Chinese 1.5kw Spindle and have tried the Matty Zee  Huanyang VFD plugin with the Supplied Huanyang VFD that came with the spindle which we can not get to work with our Huanyang VFD. So a friend who is still in the build phase of his Mechmate CNC has loaned us his Hitachi SJ200-022FNC2

VFD issue

We have configured the SJ200 VFD with the below setting before we configured A001 and A002 to 3 we tested the spindle run and speed with the keypad and dial all works fine.

Then we configured the  SJ200 to Modbus Communications  and thought the <Test Modbus> button we are able to read and write to Coils and Holding Registers with no problems except when issue the  coil 0001h Run command the VFD goes into Alarm mode that need a power Cycle to clear as clearing alarms and trip in Modbus set the Values but resets the SJ200

Brain issue

We have setup the two Brains that zigmart posted. I know that due to us using  different Cfg # and port and slave address we need to change the brain to reflect this but I'm no sure what setting to us for the following add input screen shot for the from the Modbus Config screen shot

Enter Modbus Address to use?
I know it's an output
Source?

I have shown the setting that I think should work but they don't update the VFD Reg's. If I view the brain while running I can see that it is running and values change.

Screens short taken from my home PC running Mach3 Demo as the Controller PC is with Machine about 30km away

The Questions

1. How do we stop the SJ200 going into alarm when we issue the Modbus Coil Command 0001h 0001?
2. What setting do we use for the Brains for the the Modbus Terminator that we have configured in the Modbus Configuration?

SJ200 VFD Settings
A001 = 03   Frequencey Source Setting
A002 = 03   Run Command Source Setting
A003 = 400  Base Frequency Setting
A004 = 400  Maximum Frequencey Setting
A044 = 00   V/f Characteristic curve Selection
A082 = 220  AVR Voltage Select
C071 = 06   Communication Speed Selection
C072 = 1    Node Allocation
C074 = 0    Communication Parity Selection
C075 = 1    Communication Stop Bit Selection
C076 = 01   Communication Error Selection
C078 = 50   Communication Wait Time
