General Mach Discussion / Re: Suggestions for a good MACH Computer
« on: August 13, 2011, 06:44:57 PM »
The problem I ran into was finding a PC that still supported Parallel ports. Very easy to follow instructions explaining how to assemble a desk top can be found on internet.  So, I elected to assemble my own Desk Top with a Mother Board that had enough PCI slots to provide space for the required Parallel ports.  When I went to Gecko 540, which uses the latest additions to parallel port architecture, finding PCI Parallel port cards that provided the required support, was a challenge. The first two PCI cards I tried didn’t and it was a struggle. CNC4pc, http://www.cnc4pc.com/, was able to supply reliable PCI cards and things have been fine since.
To keep interference to a minim I installed a dual boot Windows copy of XP with only MACH3 and supporting programs installed.

VB and the development of wizards / Macro Library control

I have several primitive VB functions that I used in several Macros. I have been cutting and pasting to include them in the larger macros with much border functions. As time has gone on and numbers have increased any changes to either primitive or broad function requires a lot of rework. Is there any way to automatically include functions from library? Then it seems that updating would only be a compile away. Or could they somehow be included as DLLs.

I built my own PC and when I discovered that there was no parallel port on the mother board I was at a loss. I solved the  problem by using PCI parallel port plug ins. I am driving both Sherline and a Gecko 540 with PCI Parallel ports I got from CNC4PC. Watch out because the Gecko has problems with some of the cheaper ports.

Name is Bill. New to CNC. Had a manual shop made up of old equipment that nobody wanted and had to give it up when I retired. I am now a desk top mechanist whom doesn't know much.
