Ok, found appendix B. I'm all over it. It says to orient the drawing along the x and y.

Yes that seems to be a problem I'm having. I've never drawn a dxf for a lathe. I can do mills no problem.
And someone told me lathes are easier than mills because there are only 2 axis.
How is the drawing setup in autocad? My defaults axis are x and y.
Do I need to setup the drawing along the x and z axis?

I'll fix that wrong quadrant thing.

Hi all,
I have a dxf file that I would like have the g code for.
I have not been able to find a CAM program that will produce the right code. I tried several for many hours and wasn't able to get anything decent from them.
The dxf is a small cannon for a model ship. Its about 2.5" long and .15" inches in diameter.
I'll be cutting it out of brass on a little sherline cnc if I can get the g code.
If someone can help me out I would appreciate it.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Tool Width Setting

Hood: I was inaccurate. I imported the dxf and the code was created for me. I wrote my description wrong. I edited my posted serveral times before posting and just mixed it all together.

Rich: I'll try LazyTurn

Thanks for the responses.

General Mach Discussion / Tool Width Setting
« on: December 19, 2012, 09:09:05 PM »
Newbie to Mach3Turn.
I'm a mill guy. They say lathes are easier than mills but I'm not feeling it.
The problem I am having is with tool width.
I have a groove on a part that is .160 wide. My tool is .060 wide.
My program will move to point x, plunge in x amount of distance and then move .160 along the z axis.
That gives me .160 + .060 for .220
Is there a way to tell Mach3 that my grooving tool is .06 wide and then the software compensates for it?

Quick question for a subject that I couldn't find in a search of the website.
I use Mach3 mill but just started getting into Mach3Turn. The image that represents the bar stock in the toolpath window is monster sized. I'm working with something that is .310 in diameter and it looks like a little stub on the end of the bar stock.
There is a setting Config->Toolpath->Stock Size that is set at 20 and is greyed out.
I'm using a demo version of Mach3.

Does anyone have the roadrunner in a .dxf format?

LazyCam (Beta) / Re: LazyCam G Code exported to Mach3 is wrong
« on: February 01, 2010, 11:40:14 PM »
I've had a little success with the project. I loaded a .dxf file in LazyCam on the guys computer. I cleaned, optimized and wrote a tap file. I was able to load the tap file in Mach3 and cut some stuff. Success is still a ways off but at least were cutting parts out.
Thanks for the help.
