General Mach Discussion / Re: Stopping and resuming
« on: July 16, 2009, 07:50:27 PM »
I have used the 'Run from Here' option many times, usually with success.

Scroll through the code to where you want to start or enter the line number, hit 'Run from Here' and wait until the G-code window has stopped at the correct point.  Then click on 'Cycle Start' and a Preperation Positioning dialogue box will pop up - check the 'spindle start' option and MAKE SURE that the Safe Z is set above the work and hit the Cycle Start again. The gantry should move to the correct position.  Hit Cycle Start again and the program should then continue cutting as per normal.

Provided that you do not reset the 0,0,0 it should be OK.

You will manually have to turn on the Dust/Vacuum or anything else that needs to be operational when cutting.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Two Questions About Mach 3

VisualMill has an editor for customising post processors so it is fairly easy to use the one posted on the Mecsoft web site or the Mach2 post processor that comes with VisualMill 5 and modify it to suit.  It works well on my 3 axis 2400x1200 router.

General Mach Discussion / Problem with R3.043.000
« on: January 14, 2009, 03:15:44 PM »
Upgraded from R4.041 to latest development version - now I have problems with what looks like acceleration.  I have used the same XML file but now my 3-axis router loses steps on acceleration even if I set the acceleration down lower.  I have gone back to R3.041 and all is OK - any one else having the same problem?

Hi Carl,

I see in your earlier post that you had problems setting the pulse number and saving it.  Have a look at my posting http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php/topic,2658.0.html - I  also had a similar problem with a Dell Notebook.  I am running in Sherline mode and all is going well.  I guess that it is a Dell specific problem!

I have had an intermittant problem with Gecko drives which caused the drive to stop working - leave it for a day and it works fine again, turns out that it is a temperature issue.  I have installed a cooling fan in the control box and all is fine now.  I suggest you try an external fan blowing onto the drives or blow some compressed air over the drives every few minutes and see if that fixes the problem.

Hi Zaaephod,

Here's the link to the 'Auto Tool Zero' Macro thread - it works fine!

General Mach Discussion / Re: XML file - strange happenings

Hi Brian, I guess what you are saying is that in Sherline mode the fact that the Step and Dir pulse alters makes no difference so we do not have to worry about it.  Is this called a work-around?   ;D  I think that the answer is that there is something strange with my notebook computer - no matter, it is all running fine - thanks for all your help.

Kind regards

Alan

Hi Brian,

Now you have got me really confused.  Are you talking about the stepper motor drivers or the computer screen drivers etc.  This problem exists even without the computer attached to the router (Gecko 202's through a Bob Campbell breakout board) so I can only assume that it is the computer drivers - if so why would the machine run better?  I also tried Quantum - same problem so it looks to be a computer incompatibility.

Kind regards

Alan
