Thanks Dave.  That did it.

I can't answer the question about working with  R2.63.  I went and downloaded R 3.042 and installed it with a new download of the ShuttlePro plugin and it's working fine now.

Hate to keep bringing up the ShuttlePro but I think I have tried everything I have read to get it to work but I must be missing something.  I installed the Shuttle software and then the Mach3 plug-in.  Saw I was not supposed to installed Shuttle software, so I uninstalled it.  When I go to Config:config plugins,  the shuttlepro is installed with the green check to the left and the yellow "config" to the right.  I click on the "config" button and see the ShuttlePro picture and associate the axis with the keys.  Went back and exited Mach3 and then loaded Mach3 again.  When I push the keys on the ShuttlePro, I just get a beep and the error message "Unknown word where unary operation could be.....".   I am running Mach R2.63

Well blow me down (isn't that what Popeye used to say).  I run my machine till everything warmed up and I started missing steps.  I then went to Mach and checked the Sherline 1/2 pulse mode box and haven't missed a step since.  I could see the exact spot I was missing the steps and Have no idea what that does, but it works and that is all I care.

Just checking to see if the original problem was corrected?  I think I am having the same problem, but only with my z-axis and it only does it after running the motors for 10-15 minutes.  Where do I find the option to select this "1/2 Sherline Mode"?
