It appears that CNC Router Parts may have actually developed the patch, according to their CNC Zone post. They use the ESS, which recommends .062, which is why they patched that version.

You are correct. CNC Router Parts contacted us with an offer to share the patch they had created and make it available to everyone. Mach3 is no longer in development and our team is focused solely on Mach4--which has been the case for several years.

The CNC zone thread says that CNC router parts is working with Artsoft to release the patch. So I was thinking that Artsoft was applying the fix to mach3 and releasing an updated version.
Is this literally a binary patch of the compiled mach3.exe file for 3.43.62?

Brianna,

I would respectfully request that you reconsider this situation.

Here are some key Mach 3.43.66 features which are not available on 3.43.62

1) Mill: DRO 245 whihc displays the current H register value does not update in version prior to 3.43.66
With earlier version of mach, the DRO value is always be 0.

2) Lathe: The ability to set front/rear tool post was added in 3.43.66. Prior to 3.43.66 there were no Script APIs to get or set this tool attribute.

3) I have many customers using a popular product feature which depends on the SetInputData API call. AFAIK that API call does not exist prior to 3.43.66.

By not making the patch available for 3.43.66, users will be forced to give up currently working features in order to keep running mach3.

Ger21: We all know there are different bugs in each version of Mach3. I don't see the logic in saying that is a reason NOT to apply the patch to 3.43.66 - this is not an "exclusive or" situation.
It is quite reasonable to have patched versions of both 3.43.62 and 3.43.66 available. Having a patch 3.43.66 in no way implies that 3.43.62 can not be available. With both of the last two non-development releases available users can then choose which is best for their needs.  3.43.62 may be fine for some, but it not sufficient for all users.

Hi,
It would be very nice if the patch was available for 3.43.66
I have many customers running that as the latest version of mach3 released.
There are bug fixes in 3.43.66 which are important and not available in 3.43.62 (I would be happy to provide a list of what at least some of these are if that info has been lost along the way).

I'd also like to recommend that newly patched versions of old releases be given an updated version number. Having multiple different versions of Mach3 that identify themselves as being the same is likely to lead to a support problem.

Thanks Guys for the responses.
I've added as many alpha testers as I can handle for now.
I think we now have a large enough group to get enough testing on running hardware that, in the not to distant future, we'll be able to get a
beta version released for more people to work with.

Thanks Again,
Dave

Hi,
If you'd be interested in assisting with alpha testing of a screen set being developed for Mach3 V4, please see this notice in the screen sets in progress section:

http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php/topic,13417.new.html#new

I can still handle a couple of more testers....

Hi all,

I'm looking for a few (1-4, probably not more) experienced Mach3 users.

I've been working with Brian to develop an updated screen set for Mach3 V4. The initial screen set version has been prototyped on V3.

The screen set is at an alpha stage of development.

I'm looking for Mach3 users that would be interested in helping test the Alpha screen set software on their CNC hardware.

The essential requirements are:
1) Being interested in participating on a volunteer basis (there's no money involved in this testing gig).
2) You explicitly understand that this is Alpha level software - it could well still have bugs hidden in it. You would be trying this alpha software AT YOUR OWN RISK.
3) You have a working Mach3 controlled Mill or Router.
4) You have a good familiarity with Mach operations.
5) You are willing to document and report any problems you find.

At this time the package is ONLY suitable for experimental use by experienced Mach3 users. It has been loaded and run briefly on mill hardware. However, the total number of running hours can be counted with fingers only!

Alpha testers who also have experience in using VB macros with Mach and experience modifying or creating screen sets would be most helpful. If you do not meet this general criteria, I respectfully suggest that you wait for a later stage of the project to get involved.

Given an understanding that this is an Alpha stage of the project, if you are brave, careful by nature, and after reading this, you are still interested in testing the new screen set, keep reading...

A word about “support”: This project is being done by one person, in his “extra time”, with input from a few others.  I'll try to respond to correspondence re the project, but can not guarantee response time (and the holidays may slow me down a bit more what with family time etc.). Thus, patience would be a good virtue for an Alpha tester to have at this stage of the project. This is also the reason that I can only handle a couple of more testers at this time (there simply isn't the bandwidth necessary for a large formal test program).

In case I get lots of responses to this post, I apologize to everyone in advance if I can't take everyone interested. Reality is that I just can't service lots of testers at this stage.

Now then, some formalities are in order.
This needs to be crystal clear to anyone thinking of participating:

Screen designer tips and tutorials / Re: Display a string on a screen?
« on: October 26, 2009, 06:00:52 PM »
Hi all,
I found an answer to my own question - VB call SetUserLabel  for those that may be wondering - this handles output.
For input, it's back to a dialog box.

Screen designer tips and tutorials / Display a string on a screen?
« on: October 26, 2009, 01:20:59 PM »
Hi,
Here I am working on some screens and VB code related to tools...

Here is the issue: I have in hand the string that is the tool description - and I want to display it in a fixed area on a screen....

I don't see a way to do this....   Conceptually, I think I want a "DRO for string values".
As long as I'm wishing, being able to select it and use it to get input would also be nice.

Is there a way to do this that I just have missed?

Does anyone have a clever way to accomplish this?

Screen designer tips and tutorials / Re: height of title and menu bars?
« on: October 15, 2009, 10:14:57 PM »
Hi,
In case anyone should wonder...

On a 1024x768 screen, with mach at full screen, once you deduct the title and menu bars and the borders, I believe the area left for screen pages is 1016 x 719 pixels.   ...that also happens to be the size the mach blue screens use for background images also (so I guess those guy already figured out this bit of trivia).

Curiously the mach standard 1024 screen set is 967x725 - I find that test screens at 725 high cut off the bottom few pixels when displayed in mach.

So, I'm going with 1016x719 as the magic size and will let "auto enlarge" handle physical screens other than 1024x768.

Thanks guys,
upon further reflection, I've realized my question may have been simplistic -
programs can alter the size of the bars pragmatically and I believe users can also by fiddling with display themes etc....
I think I'll simply assume mach uses the default size bars and go from there (not sure how much that is yet, but I'll figure out some way to measure it).
