Mach4 General Discussion / New to Mach4, a few questions.
« on: February 23, 2023, 06:45:58 PM »
Hi all,

Mach3 for a decade, now Mach4 for the last week.

1 - Is it possible to set up the built-in keyboard addon to control jog amount? For example, + and - keys to adjust from 1.000 to 0.001 in increments?

2 - With Mach3, I was able to configure the Xbox360 plugin to use the variable triggers to control the jog rate, but I don't find that to be available in the Mach4 version. If that's not part of the plugin, do you think it would be possible to add that functionality through LUA?

3 - What do *you* use for a controller? Keyboard & mouse, Xbox Controller, MPG Pendant, or something else? I've been using the Xbox360 plugin on Mach3 for years, but I'm willing to learn something new if #2 isn't an option.

Thanks,
Z

Thanks SwiftyJ, that was the trick. I appreciate the help from you both.  :)

Hi Graham,

Thanks for your reply! I see it loaded for you, but I tried setting the tool numbers to 4 and 5, and it still hangs for me. I also checked the tool config area, and this is how it was set by default:

I must be missing something more.

Thanks,
Z

EDIT:

Wrong pastebin link, that was one I was fiddling with trying to find the problem. Here's a complete file:

Hi all,

I've been using Mach 3 for a long time, got the bug today to look into how far development for Mach 4 has come. I downloaded the demo version today.

I wrote a program years back that sorts and separates tools from multiple programs, then compiles all the gcode back into a single file, with a probing routine and math to adjust the Z for uneven materials. I've used my custom software for years, it works very well with Mach 3, but Mach 4 gets stuck at "Tool path progress" while opening the gcode file. I don't get any errors, it just hangs. If I push cancel during loading, the gcode is all in the window, but there's no preview, and I can't run the code.

I tried poking at it a bit, but haven't found what's causing it yet, so I thought I'd ask here.

Here's a sample code, with just a single program with probing.

Thanks,
Z

General Mach Discussion / Re: G31 Probing with G68 Rotation enabled

TPS,

Just a follow up here. I haven't done any "real world" probing today, just some tests, but it appears that the Distance Mode setting is the culprit here. I'm still not really sure why that setting would cause the G31 probing command to move X, Y and Z, instead of just Z, but I'm sure there's a reason, I just haven't found it yet. I'll dig into the manual again, and run some more tests today.

Anyway, thanks for helping solve the problem, I really do appreciate it!

Thanks,
Z

TPS,

Thanks a bunch for looking into that, and the link. I'll give those settings a try as soon as the machine isn't busy.

Thanks!

Hi TPS,

Thanks for offering to look at the xml files. So you know, these are from two very differently configured machines.

If you don't find anything obvious, I think I'll try setting up a fresh, blank configuration, with just the bare minimum to test, and see if that works.

Thanks,
Z

Yep, and I double checked the gcode as well, there are no G18 or G19 commands in there, only the G17 at the top.

I use the machine daily, this is something that's been on my list of things to tackle for a long time, it's just now becoming a problem, since I'm probing more often, and use G68 more often, too.

Thanks for the reply,
Z

Looking into this further, I tried the same process on my milling machine, running the same version of Mach3 as the other machine, it doesn't have this 'drift' oddity, which indicates to me it's definitely something in the settings or configuration. Now, figuring out which one it is ...
