Mach3 under Vista / Re: Win 7 port monitor
« on: February 11, 2014, 08:48:30 PM »
I have given up on Mach.  My motherboard finally died and it not worth trying to find a PC that can take dual parallel ports.  On to another platform that can use a modern OS and processor.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Spindle Override

Brett,

I looked up the feedrate is 821 and the spindle is 74. Might as well do both.

Thanks.

General Mach Discussion / Spindle Override
« on: July 05, 2013, 10:44:28 AM »
Is there a command I can place in the gcode file that will reset the spindle override?

I sometimes adjust the override and I the sometimes forget to reset it,  thinking I can resolve this by just adding a command to reset the spindle override at the beginning of each program.

TIA

Dan

Mach3 under Vista / Re: Windows 7 issues
« on: February 13, 2013, 11:25:19 PM »
Solution to Mach driver problems = Ethernet Smoothstepper :)

http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php/topic,23646.0.html

Problem with SS is that it does not support all the functionality in Mach.  From what I have read until recently it did not support backlash and I thought I read somewhere it does not support offsets.  They used to have a listing of functionality not supported on their web site.  Going forward if Mach does add functionality there is no assurance that it will be supported.

I guess I don't understand why Mach cannot resolve the Win7 issues.  At some point in the not to distant future XP is going to be unsupported by MS.

Original system is xp been running it for a very long time here is a screen shot of the port monitor (about in the middle of the screen) and the diagnostics page in Mach.

With Win7 32bit same picture.  Notice he port monitor is fine but the Mach diagnostics page is not correct.

General Mach Discussion / Cheap PC
« on: January 29, 2013, 10:28:44 PM »
Bought this PC on Newegg:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883157147

Added a second hard drive and parallel port.  Had to take out the 3.5 drive to add the ard drive and cut down the parallel port to be half height.

$144 with Win7 pro is a great deal.

General Mach Discussion / Toolpath Highlight
« on: February 17, 2012, 06:21:04 PM »
Isn't there a way to have the path highlight as you scroll through the gcode in the toolpath window.  i look for settings but could not find anything.  Thought I did it before but it was a long time ago.

TIA

I agree the 5C system is superior.  The main purpose I would see for using a 4th axis on a mini mill is for indexing.  Most people using a mini mill are cutting light materials such as wax, plastics, brass, etc.

I would forgo the servo for a stepper. Steppers are much more compatible with small home systems.  The addition of the belt I assume fixes the back lash issue by eliminating any and increases the positioning speed.

It looks like the tail stock is about 5" wide?  This could work on an X2.

To use this on a mini mill you really do not need the lock or break.  But you would need to figure out a belt and motor.  I have also though of using a X2 spindle box and remove the gears then mount a pulley on the back with a belt and motor.  Problem is that I do not have the equipment to mod the parts.

Issue with any of the existing Phase II style tables that are retro fitted with a stepper motor is the backlash is difficult to control if you put any real hours on them.
