Title: Pci express
Post by: twin staged on October 01, 2008, 06:07:27 PM
just wondering if i would have any problems running a pci express 25 pin serial port?  The new computer only has PCI-e and I can pick up a card for cheap.  THANKS  :)

If its a serial then its no use, if its a parallel  then it should work but afraid I have no experience.

yes it's a parallel port.. just a normal db25 printer port.  Only difference is that it's run from pci express.  If anyone knows I would appreciate it before I make my purchase. thanks again

Edited to show the card

I've had good luck with Bytecc stuff in general but looks like you may be the guinea pig on this one. Apparently it'e pretty hit-or-miss with expansion i/o cards and Mach in general. Let us know how it turns out!

twin staged,
The port standards have changed over time. Check for differences on how the cards go into the motherboard. May not even fit.....sorry but just don't remember the history.  Yes there are differences between cards, like output volatges  etc.. Additionaly the signal quality can be crap.......thus you end up with stepper not running right.
Make sure you get a return policy with purchase of the card.

BTW i had a hell of a time with a dell and somebody sent me a driver for the card and it worked. The drivers that came with the one card where garbage. Point is, the one $10 card wasn't worth the space it took in the gabage can!
