Title: M5 halts machine
Post by: scudzuki on September 23, 2008, 11:05:09 PM
Finally got 220V electric in my garage. Running Mach3 on a converted RF45 mill. Now I can turn the machine spindle on with M3/M4 but when I issue an M5, it shuts down the servos as well as the spindle, requiring a reset before any machine motion can be resumed. What gives?

What is in your M5 macro?

I did not define an M5 macro. It is a new installation of Mach3 with pinouts and motor tuning settings (and license) extracted from Mach2 as configured by the retrofitter. I will try copying the m5.m1s file from the "macros" folder into the root.

I tested it with Mach2, and it works fine. I read (again) through the mach3 mill setup guide, examined my configuration, checked the pinouts against my mach2 config. It's all correct. The m5 macro in mach2 looks the same as the one in mach3. The spindle comes on. mach3 inserts a dwell to allow the spindle to spin up, issue an m5 and it triggers an estop. Anyone?

Ah ok so it is an E-Stop rather than shutting down the servos. I was thinking you were meaning it actually disabled the drives when you did a M5.
Sounds like noise may be a problem, try setting the debounce to 2000 and if that helps start lowering it until you get the problem again.

Ahh, debounce, yes of course. Mach2 config was set to 500, set Mach3 to 500, problem solved. You are very know ledgable, and I am fortunate to have this resource to draw on. Thanks for your help.
