Title: Electronics guys, need help.
Post by: budman68 on September 14, 2008, 11:59:09 AM
Ok, I'm getting my parts together for a relay box I'm building for my Vacuum pump and I bought 2 Solid-State Relays TD2425 240V 25A (I know, very overkill but really nice units).

Now my question since these have an input voltage of 3 through 32 volts, to test these, shouldn't I be able to apply 12 volts (wall wart) to the input side (posts 3and 4) and take my multimeter and set it for continuity testing and touch the output side and get continuity across those posts (posts 1 and 2)?

It's basically a switch and when it gets voltage, it opens up the AC voltage side, no?

I'm including a pdf of this relay.

Thanks so much-
Dave

Dave,

It's a SCR switch so you would need to connect a AC load in series with the "output" terminals. You could use a light bulb or small AC motor to test but you will not be able to measure with your ohm meter to see if it's switching.

PS- it's normaly open so when there is no 3-32VDC on the input the output terminals are not conducting any current, when you apply the input, the SCR will conduct current and turn on your load (motor, pump, lamp etc.)

Oh, I see, I would actually have to have an AC load present then for it to switch?

Thanks so much, Kristin, I'll give it a try then-  :)

This worked perfectly when testing today, thanks so much, Kristin-  :)

No Problem Dave,

By the way I always wondered what happened to PacMan after Ms. PacMan left him for a Missle commander, looks like he's just gulping up the juice.
