Title: simple AC servo speed control?
Post by: ihugh on August 29, 2008, 01:47:03 PM
Hello to all

I'm pretty new to this, so please bear with me!

I have a nice sized AC Servo motor that I would like to use to drive a grinding spindle.

The label says 200 volts and 200 watts.

There are 4 wires coming from the motor. I'm not planning on using the encoder.

I thought I read on another forum, where it's possible to drive this motor with a "Flux Vector" VFD.

Has anyone tried this approach?

Thanks for your input!

I have never tried it, but theoretically it should work.
The motor should have three phase wires and an earth.
If you use a vector drive, set the maximum output voltage to 200V.
Most sensorless vector drives need you to enable the vector function and then to select autotune.
Also remember that a servo has multiple poles, so you might have to set the maximum frequency very high.
to get the rated maximum speed for the servo.
