Title: Offset tangential control?
Post by: DennisCNC on August 22, 2008, 09:42:26 PM
I know its simple in Mach to do tangential control if the tool is directly under the rotating axis, what about something like this:

Or is it done in cam?

Thanks

Hey Dennis,
That is pretty neat. Thought about doing something similar not too long ago.
Just subtract the distance from the inside edge of the saw to the radius point of the rotary axis, from the the actual radius of the finished part. Or offset that same distance to the inside in lazycam.
Never went any further with it though.
Thanks for the link, cool.

Looking at it, it appears to be a circular saw held on two axis. I assume the saw position can be moved into or out from the central pivot, and the central pivot is a rotary axis.

Cutting outside the shape, as shown, the centre of rotation will be from the inside edge of the saw, to the central pivot, the width of the blade as it swings just cuts outside the line.

It would be difficult to calculate if you were cutting an inside edge though.

Well thats certainly different and interesting. Looks like an optional way of cutting granite instead of the conventional large profile machine. I wounder how they plan on edging it? I would be bet it's done in a cam program specific to the machine.
