Title: Problems with pocket cutting in mach 3
Post by: swmarsh01 on August 13, 2008, 05:55:25 PM
Hello All,
I am new to this forum but not new to cnc.     Here is my problem.   When I create a pocket cut using vcarve pro and mach 3 to control my cnc I get a bouncing movement on the x and y axis when going around the letters that I am carving.   For example:  I create a design with letters in vcarve pro. After the design process I goto the output side and save my file to cut.  Now when I start my cut I have my router make 2 passes of .125 total equiling .250 cut. when it goes around the letters its not a smooth cut. It kinda jumps. now on the stright cut theres no problem. only the curves. ( Not the z axis )  This leaves a very bad finnish.  Its not smooth at all.  I have to do alot of sanding.    I am using a hobbycnc pro board with 305 oz steppers.
Any Clue on why this is happening?
Thanks  Steve

Hi Steve,

it sounds as if your software is outputting tiny straight lines for the arcs, if you do not have CV turned on in Mach3 then turning it on will help. If you have then look if Vcarve can output arcs instead of the line segments.

Graham.
