Title: Cambell designs THC -=- Table Ground ??
Post by: richyrich212 on March 19, 2008, 04:58:02 PM
Hello all,

I am in there process of installing a cambell designs  "THC-300"   Torch height controller.

In the install PDF  it states that the plasma table should be earth grounded with a ground rod.

Does everyone have there tables grounded to EARTH  using this method????

Depends which plasma power supply you are using. If it is a Hypertherm Powermax then you don't need the earth spike. Only plasma machines with HF start needs to clamp the RF to ground. But it is essential that you ground the table and machine to common ground. Reason.. If you have a short circuit to machine from the plasma neg it will seek an alternative ground and you can see some smoke on control wiring and PC, with collateral damage.

Whacko :)

thanks for your reply.

I am using a Hypertherm Powermax 1000  so I guess table grounding is not a big issue.

I will ground the table to the same electrical ground as the machine with a 8 AWG copper wire  hopefully this will be sufficent !!
