Title: using notebook with mach3
Post by: bartbruyninckx on February 26, 2008, 01:37:40 PM
Hello, I bought the license for mach3 last sunday and activeted it yesterday.
I'm using it on a Compaq Evo n610c and everything works well but I can't type data into the DRO-fields of the program.
When I'm using a normal pc everything works well, I can write data into the fields.
Hope someone can help me, greatings         Bart Bruyninckx.
(PS sorry for the faults in my english writing).

Which  DROs are you having problems with? Are you managing to type the data in and just it doesnt stay once you press enter? If so try hooking up a standard keyboard to the notebook and see if that makes any difference.

Hi, Bart

Don't now why it would act any different than your normal pc.

At the top of mach3 screen under Operator Tab, Click on the Auto Calculator, It will turn on a keypad when you want to enter numbers.

If you havent found the pop-out jog window, Hit the TAB Key to turn in on or off.

Hope this Helps, Chip

Thank you both, but when I'm working on a pc only the numerical path works and the numbers you use on a notebook (the row off numbers under functionkeys) doesn't work on a pc neither.
As for the second tip, it works perfect when I use the mach3-calculator but it only accepts integer value and doesn't accept numbers after the decimal point.

If you open a text document and use the numbers under the F keys do they type correctly?
Also are you using the standard screenset or a custom one?

Download Mach again and re-install it, something is weird as you should be able to use these keys  and even if for some reason you couldnt then you should be able to use the on screen keyboard no problems.

I re-installed again and the problem is still the same. I think it is a mach3 software problem, because when you run it on an "ordinary" pc the problem is the same, but when you use the numerical keypad everything works well, and because a laptop has no pad like that you have a big problem.

I have never seen this problem before and I have used Mach for maybe 3 or 4 yrs now, also I always use they keys you want to use as my keyboards are mini flexible type similar in layout to a laptop.
As an experiment could you set your keyboard to English (United Kingdom) in Control Panel > Regional Settings.
Failing that can you attach your xml file and screenset. If you zip them and attach them it should be accepted by the forum.

Because my problem with my compaq is unsolveble can somebody tell me which laptop to use so I can buy one (secondhand) where the numeric keys are working (see the problems I have above).
Fill in DRO's in mach3 with the numerical keys (the row under the functionkeys).

Please attach your xml and screenset, there must be a reason you cant use the numbers to enter into the DRO, especially as it happens on both a desktop and your laptop. This is not normal and maybe I can find the problem within your xml or screenset, as it is happening on both computers getting another laptop is unlikely to solve your problem and will just be a waste of money.

Thank you very much Hood, the problem is solved by turning the keyboard to English. I tried it before with other ones but not the UK one. I think the problem is with my keyboard settings, that you have to push the shift-key and then a numerical key to put data in the mach3 DRO-field. So thanks again for the tip,
