Title: Starting on the Hurco
Post by: Chaoticone on February 22, 2008, 09:05:26 PM
I will be retrofitting this Hurco over the next few weeks. It has a 12 position tool changer that I will modifying to accept BT 30 tool holders and will be using a DL06 to control the tool changes. I have no manuals what so ever. If any of you do, that would be helpful. I will be using 750watt AC servos for the three axis. I hope to use the exisiting servo and power supply for the tool chain.

Hey Brett,

Looks like you've got your work cut out for you. What type of tool holder does the machine currently use?

At least the thing is Y2K compiant ::).

I remember having to put those stickers on all kinds of crap when I worked for Lockheed. As if a machine tool needs to know when or where it is.....half the time I don't even know :D.

Hey Monty,
It uses CT 30 tool holders now. They are very much the same, just the BT30 are cheaper and have more options. The only thing I will have to do I think is have some custom pull studs made and make new arms for the changer. This won't be bad at all. One of the arms is missing a little off the end and was going to make one new one anyways. This one should be much more robust than my stepper machine and faster I hope. This machine has been sitting for years. It was bought as one of a pair and was going to be used for spare parts. Some of the controls were taken and all but 2 of the air selonoids. Those are expensive :( . I think I will be using SMC modular manifold and valves.

Bummer about the solenoids. I've had some luck buying them surplus. You might try surplus center.

Still not inexpensive, but hopefully a little less than what you have been looking at. If not there is always fleabay.

Maybe I'll have my lathe running by the time you need those pull studs.  ;)

Hey Rc,
I have no idea what year it was made. I hope to get it cleaned up this week and look for some tags. It has a 5HP spindle.

Nope, I'm using a smooth stepper.

this isn't the hurco that was running with the galil mentioned in the galil plugin thread? or it is and now that you're using the smooth stepper that's why we aren't seeing any new posts in the galil plugin thread?

It seems so rare that I see a real machine like this I assumed it to be the same machine.

I'll probably have my spindle wizard running with the galil amp and control in the next week.

No, this is a different machine. I think I remember seeing the one your talking about. I don't think it had a tool changer. Can't remember. I have been watching your spindle wizard thread. I need to figure out exactly how I'm going to drive my spindle on the Hurco. I have a servo on its way for it but not sure it will have enough torque for the job without some gearing.

EXCELLENT......Sometimes we lose track of what's REALLY important.
Was having a good time too.....till lightning struck my house AND shop, fried some of my stuff.  >:(
But...must look at the bright side, could have been worse I guess.  :)
See Ya Brett,

Nope, been spending the summer with the kids while they are out of school. It will start back n a few weeks and then I'll be back on the Hurco. I may get it painted before then, but no hurry there. On the other hand, the kids are growing up fast. I got the paint and although yellow isn't one of the colors, flames are allways an option.  ;D

Just because the kids are growing up fast you don't have to paint flames on them  ::)

You would be better painting some flames on your office chair Brett, that way you might think its too hot to sit down and so get you off your arse :D

I have the manual for this machine and also have one of these machines. Bought it from a school with 1000 hours on it. I ripped the Tool changer off and put a kwik switch 200 spindle in it. I still runs the original Hurco control. Tell me the serial number and I will tell you the age. You can also find the age at my website www.amtsinc.com
