Title: z-axis takes a vacation...
Post by: Sweeney on January 20, 2008, 09:12:22 AM
On occasion when I fire up the system I have no control of the z-axis stepper... like now.  Sometimes a restart of the computer brings it back, other times it doesn't.  The motor is fine.  Any clues?

Check all of your wiring carefully, swap the drive from another axis and see if the problem follows the drive, try another PP cable just in case it has a bad connection internally.

I think there's a suspect connection on the computer's port... cracked solder joint or similar.  I tried my printer and it didn't work either (different cable).  After a little jostling of the terminal I got it to work.  I'll have to dig into it.

Thanks for the reply, Hood!

Cheers,

might be just as easy for you to get a PCI port and use that instead, the only thing you will have to change is the port address.
