Title: Lcam Cut Start
Post by: RobWilson on January 11, 2008, 06:55:58 PM
Hi Can any body help , if i set the cut start in Lcam to say -2mm for example it goes positive, what i am trying to do is  do a pocket to a depth of say -2mm then do a smaller pocket inside the first
with a start depth of -2mm cut to -4mm, i can do it if the layer  cut start are both at 0 but there is a lot of fresh air machining on the second pocket until it reaches -2 mm, so how do i get the second pocket to start at -2mm.

Rob,
You could try setting the cut depth for the first pocket to 2mm, and the deeper pocket to 4mm. Cut start can stay at 0.
Just put them in different layers and set the cut depths different in each layer.
I assume you have two profiles, an inner and an outer.
Good luck,
RC

Hi Rob,
My numbers are a little bit different but the method is the same.
This works well on mine, basically just as you have it.
Inner pocket starts where it should...no air cut.
Has this worked in the past, or is it a new setup ? Direction settings in config. is why I ask.
RC

Woah, Rob, I see now what you mean. The view in LCam does show the deeper pocket projected up as well as down. But the posted code is as it should be.  Very strange.

Hi RC
I have just run some code and it works fine ,I am new to cnc and i was getting confused by the display i Lcam , It must be some sort of bug, its not to much of a problem ,
I must say Mach and Lcam is the best value for money i have  seen in a long time. both excellent programs.
Thanks very much for your help
Rob
