Title: Motor setup help??
Post by: richyrich212 on December 08, 2007, 02:19:43 PM
Hello all,

I am in the process of setting up mach3.  I have set up  all my input and output data and am able to spin all the x,y and z motors using the MDI screen.

My issue is with the "motor tuning" screen.  I'm not sure what value to input for the "steps per" field.   The info for my machine is as follows:

-using a 4.29:1 gear reduction
-running the gecko's at full step
- rack and pinion grear is 0.750" DP  on a 20TPI rack

I have calculated 1step = .0027 " per step final drive ( .0750*3.14/4.29/200 )

What value should be entered in the "steps per" field as i am not sure what this unit is asking for !!

thanks for any help in advance !!!!

A unit is either  Inch or mm depending on your setup, ie Imperial or metric. I presume you will be using Imperial so it is the amount of steps to move one inch.

I have calculated  364 for the steps per !!!   Does this sound correct??

If your 0.0027" per step is correct then it will be 1/0.0027 = Steps per inch

You can also use the Set Steps Per  button on the settings page, it will put the right numbers in for you after you have done some moves and measurements.
