I have a potentially stupid question to ask...
What do I need to consider when pairing a motor with a VFD? Specifically, I have a couple vector drives, specs here:

they are 5hp GE sensorless vector drives. What do I need to look for in a motor to take advantage of the vector benefits of the drive? I read in the manual that it needs to be a 2, 4, or 6 pole motor...anything else?

It depends on what you would like to us the drive for.
If you only require it for the spindle at close to synchronous speed then you can use a normal motor,
but if you are using it for a low rpm, high rpm or constant start/stop operation then it is better to use an inverter motor
which has seperate windings for the cooling fan or use an external cooling fan - at high rpm the motors fan will draw higher
current from the motor and may even stall the motor.
