Title: machine coordinate
Post by: tubular2000 on November 24, 2007, 02:40:10 PM
hi all,

i am using mach3 on a lathe that i've just finished the cnc conversion.  i've set the x and z drives to go home at power up. so the limit switches are on the drives not on mach3. on the software i use the soft limits, and it works fine. when the axes are at home, i reset the machine coordinates and then i can move the axis whithin the soft limits and the software will not allow the machine to move outside the limits, and this is what i want. the problem is when i set the work zero. then the machine coordinate and the soft limits apear to move to the same spot. for example when the z axis is at home (tailstock) the machine coordinate is set to zero, if i move the axis to the left at -10 and then set the part zero z, i can no longer move to the right of that point because the soft limits now apply to that new location, neither can i see the original machine coordinate.  is there a way to have the machine coordinate stay set to the same spot for the whole session?

I think it is because you have the limits/homes through the drives. I think you will have to enable the home switches in mach. Not certain though, let me think on it a bit. Maybe someone else will answer soon If I can't.

ok, i found the problem.

i am using the silver blue set of screen, and in the manual screen, the machine coordinate and part coordinate buttons are switched. if someone knows how to fix that issue it would be great to update the file in the download area.

Hi tubular2000, there was a similar problem with the steel blue mill set http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php/topic,578.0.html

You can fix it yourself by downloading a copy of the screen designer, load the screen set (TurnSilverBlue.lset) in your Mach3 folder. select screen 4 from the buttons along the top (sometimes need to click twice) then simply swap the buttons in question by draging them into their proper places OR you could double click to get at their definition screens and swap the oem codes (code 179 should be 181 and visa virsa).

Hope this helps
