Title: Mach 3 Job Size problem. Help Please??
Post by: ronniecruisin on November 17, 2022, 07:44:17 PM
Hi. all. Just got a 6040 Chinese machine. Set up the mach 3 software. Input all settings from online manufacturer. Machine runs great. But the size of the job was miniscule. so small it was tiny on the screen. Checked Func 6 and did calc re travel. specified a figure and machine moved that distance. Have no idea how it happened but at some point the image on the screen changed to the proper size and the job cut out perfectly. Saved the settings and turned Mach 3 off and reloaded the program. Back to the original Tiny image and the machine doing the tiny movements again. I have no clue what is going wrong!!! Anybody know please.???? It's doing my head in!!! Regards to all ....Ronnie.

Have you got the native units set to Inch or MM

Hi. They are set to MM.

Just thought I may have changed them to inch. Can not check now because i'm away from the machine. I'll check when I get home.

Hi. Graham. Yes just checked. Native units set to MM. Tried changing to INCH and restarted the computer just to see what happens. Loaded the file and same result. Tiny. One thing also. When it is like this the XYZ movement figures are large increments for a small movement of the travel.

you will most likely have to recalibrate the axis. also how did you go about changing the units? there is a right way and a wrong way.

Hi.Charlie. I just went to the native units page and clicked either the Inch or MM. I did try rebooting the computer and reloading Mach 3. What I can't understand is how suddenly the size of the file transformed into the correct size and I'm pretty sure i did not do anything at that moment to make it happen. I then ran the job and the machine cut it out perfectly. I then hit save in Mach 3 and rebooted the computer. When Mach 3 loaded the problem was back!!!

It might be mach3. What version are you running?

Hi. Charlie. Well. On the disk supplied with the machine by the Chinese seller when opening the file it reads Version R3.041. But when Mach 3 opens the opening briefly showing page.{top R/H corner} says 2.0 so who knows. Also I noticed it also shows XP and 2000. I'm running the machine in windows 7 and it is a usb connection. The machine was sold as XP or Windows 7 capable.. But the program as I said did display my image and ran perfectly that one time so I'm assuming it is a parameter that I have incorrectly done causing the problem. Regards...Ronnie

Hi Ronnie,
I also have a 6040. It came with that same version. .062 was the last best version. I would update to this version.

Are you running the licence file that came with the machine?

How do I do that.?? I'm assuming mine is a Chinese knockoff. So probably not a supported by Artsoft version I'm guessing. I also have a 6090 machine which after many good years has a problem with the Breakout board which is why I got the new 6040. Could not find spare parts for the 6090 anywhere. It came with similar Mach 3 too. Have had no issues with it. It and the machine is XP only. I did consider using that software but could not get the driver alone for the 6040 assuming it would not run without it.

Hi. Graham. Yes copied and pasted it as instructed. As I have had success once I assume that can't be the problem.

The machine is running perfectly. It is only the size issue that i'm having.

Hi. All. Been having another go at getting my machine to work. I'm wondering if the problem is the Table size. ie Is the machine thinking it's too big??? It certainly looks it on the screen compared with the file image. If I reset the XYZ to zero in the tool screen the image looks right but a tiny move shoots across the image fast and the machine if running the program barely moves at all. Only a few MMs. Trouble is I had such a good run with none of this type of problem with my old 6090. It just worked straight off. This is extremely frustrating especially as it did work perfectly for one piece! Anyway Thanks all for trying to help. I'll try reloading from scratch the software.  Regards...Ronnie.

 Hi Ronnie,

Here is the link to mach3 downloads. https://www.machsupport.com/ftp/Mach3/ (https://www.machsupport.com/ftp/Mach3/)just scroll down until you see  that ends with .062 and download. The machine with the bad breakout board is it a usb connection? if so this is probably what it has https://buildyourcnc.com/Item/electronicsAndMotors-electronic-component-breakout-Mach3-USB-Board (https://buildyourcnc.com/Item/electronicsAndMotors-electronic-component-breakout-Mach3-USB-Board)

Hi. Charlie. Thanks for that. I'll give that a go. The 6090 machine is a Stepmores. It's a Serial port connection. When fired up from cold if looking at the Breakout board the green strip leds light in sequence depending which axis you're moving. Within under a minute some of those leds dim and the X and Z axis is very rough if moving at all Y axis still smooth, so I'm assuming that the board has the issue.... Regards  Ronnie.

Hi. Charlie. downloaded the file. Same problem. So as an experiment I installed Mach 3 on an old XP machine. So I now had the same on both Win7 and XP. On XP no machine hooked up the program looked as it should with the cursor lines travel X and Y scrolling correctly. Same test on the Win 7 computer? Cursor moving too quickly across file. I suspect the win 7 computer as the culprit. It has a virtual XP mode built in to Win 7. Maybe that is a problem. Unfortunately I can't run the 6040 as The XP doesn't seem to recognize the RNR eco motion controller. The WIN 7 asks if I want to use the controller at the USB port. I don't know how to do this on the XP computer. And unfortunately I don't have another WIN7 to try.

Hi. Charlie. Well now I'm more confused than ever. Installed Mach on a Win 7 laptop as that is the only other computer I have. Same result without the 6040 hooked up. loading a file looks wrong.  Same problem as above.  Tried to connect the 6040. Would not move. Soooo. The only time it looks and works correct is when installed on XP. I'd be happy with that but can't get the 6040 to move. Have absolutely no idea what to do next. I've had about ten years happily making all sorts of stuff on my other CNC and can't believe the situation I'm now in.!!! Looks like I should have got the serial port version. At least I know it works. Trouble is I have no money left to do anything else.

You need to post your XML file and some screen shots so we can work out what is going on here.

Also put a link to the site you got the details for the machine, this will help us work out if the XML file is correct.

We also need the g-code file you are loading that shows the wrong size.

How do you create the g-code?

Mach3 will run on win7 32 or 64 but many of the drivers are 32 bit only so that is why Win XP is better.

I would suggest you wipe the Mach3 folder from the XP computer and do a new install using this version:-

https://www.machsupport.com/ftp/Mach3/Mach3Version3.043.062.exe (https://www.machsupport.com/ftp/Mach3/Mach3Version3.043.062.exe)

If you have a paid for licence file on your other machine copy it to this one, the one on the Chinese disk is a pirate copy and causes problems.  If you do not have one use it in demo mode for now.

Make sure you put the plugin from the Chinese disk in the right place within Mach3 folder and select that on the device window.

Hi. Graham. Where do I find the XML file??? The machine was bought through Ebay. The seller calls themselves "hotbid" Gcode was created in Aspire Gcode inch. Have done hundreds of them as we make timber Jewellery. never had an issue. I will put some things together as you suggest and post them. When copy and paste the file as in the chinese instructions it was very hard to follow as they were poorly done so I pasted the 6040 file they specified straight into Mach 3 in C drive. I did not open it first because could not understand the chinese symbols. I did open the C drive folder after and the Licence is in there so figured it would work and as I said in my post it did work perfectly for one time only. Job size and machine behavior perfect. Is the XP not happening because incorrect Driver I'm wondering?? Mach 3 looks and acts correct on XP and the USB connection is locked. Just won't run the machine. ie. No movement but the steppers are locked so must be communicating I think. If I could solve that issue I could just use XP as  the software seems ok on that.

Hi. All. Found the XML file. Do I open it ? Also a typical file from our Jewellery jobs. Also a photo of the file that worked correctly. The size of this piece is 180mm x 100mm. if I attempt to run that same file now it would be treated as though it was a few mms x a few mms. The machine makes all the moves but in miniature. Now i have looked online for a solution to running with XP with a USB connection. I'm finding it almost impossible to get an answer. The general opinion seems to be you can't just plug in to a USB port. The program I got with the machine runs the win7 machine from the USB port. But the same program will not run it on an XP machine through the USB port. Can you tell me why???The connection does lock the steppers but no movement. From what I see online there is nobody who's had this exact same issue as me. Lucky me! >:D I will now attempt to upload a couple photos and a file for you...Regards   Ronnie.

As the forum will not accept uploads of names already used you will need to rename your .xml file to something like Ronnie.xml before it can be uploaded.

Hi Ronnie,
Looking at your tap file the x and y moves are in the thousands of a inch. so yea the moves will be very small.

Hi Charlie. The Cats or whatever other pieces we cut are roughly between 20 to 60 mm in size and we usually do a run of them depending on the timber size offcut we have. The machine as I said is now cutting the file with tiny movements. it is following the file but so small you would not be able to tell what the image is. Basically a piece of timber say 200mm square covered with a number of images would be reduced to just a few mms square. As I said the clue is in the screen on Mach 3. The cursor red line movements Flash across the image with only the barest touch of the keyboard X or Y. This is not normal even with no file, the Mach 3 is running wrong. The same Mach 3 on the old XP computer works correctly with the red cursor lines crossing the screen at a normal rate with one of our typical files loaded. I just can't get the machine to move on the XP.

This Photo is a typical job. Same type of file sent already created in Aspire. All done exactly the same way. This piece of Craftwood is 180mms x 100mms. If I try to cut this on the 6040 it will cut the whole thing probably about the size of a postage stamp. Watching the machine move, it hardly moves at all. It does all the moves in the file, but cuts them so small you can't tell what the thing looks like. Doesn't look like the file will attach. I'll try it on its own.

Hi Ronnie,
Try adding G21 at the beginning of the g code.
I say this because I opened your tap file on me cnc software and the units are in inches. Your machine is mm.

Hi Charlie. Did that with one of the files. Made no difference. Just tried to send you a pic of a job. The one that the 6040 cut right. Would not attach. The timber 180 x100 mms is covered with Bees each one 50mm x 30mm. As I said in a post couple minutes ago the 6040 would now cut that whole 180x100 piece the size of a postage stamp. And the shapes would be unrecognizable. That's how bad the situation is.

Hi. Charlie and all who helped us with this issue. It's fixed :) ;D You were correct Charlie. Changed the Post Processer in aspire to Gcode MM and it worked. I have been using Gcode inch for many years and it always worked just fine. I never changed it which is why I could not understand why one file worked one time only in this new machine and program.. It was inch same as all the others. Very Strange. Anyway Charlie, my Wife also wants to say thank you because She is the Jewellery maker and relies on me to cut the components out on the CNC. We have not been able to make any stock for markets and as it is close to Xmas we need to produce. The other machine picked a bad time to fail. Anyway tis all good now. Thanks so much all who helped with this. Most appreciated by us... Wishing you all the best.....Regards...Ronnie and Fiona. ;D

Thanks Charlie. Yes. We are very happy. Tried another piece this morning. Perfect. Only issue I'm still having is setting the z cutter height. With my other machine you could lower the cutter to the face of the job from the keyboard with tiny movements. With this setup the quickest of taps on the keyboard sends the cutter into the job. It seems to move a number of mms instead of close increments.  Is there a parameter I can change to fix this??? Other than that it's running very well in every respect. regards...Ronnie.
