Title: My parts are correct but upside down??
Post by: gyrojeremy on May 17, 2021, 07:56:53 AM
Hi all.
I have a question that's a little easier to explain with photos. But basically the parts come out correct but it's not intuitively the right way around. Note in the CAM image the direction and location of the part zero coordinates. To me this is how it should be when looking at it in the mill but it's not as you can see from the second photo. If I set up part zero as you see it on the CAM image the mill thinks the part is off to the back, left.
I managed to cut this part by setting X & Y Zero on the piece of wood at the front right (front being closest to the door of the mill).

Am I looking at this all wrong or do I have a setting set wrong.

Machine zero is:
Z at the top moving - to travel down.
X is table to far left moving + to travel right.
Y is table to front moving + to travel back towards the column.

Looks like your x-axis is reversed

Config -> Ports&Pins -> Motor Output's -> X-Axis -> Dir Low Active

If that was the case, then my Y axis would also need switching?? Would that then change my X and Y travel (from home position) be negative numbers? Would that also affect the Jog directions?

have a quick look to the Manual:

https://www.machsupport.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Mach3Mill_1.84.pdf

chapter 7.1 to see how the coordinate System is, but remember, directions are allways
tool related to material.

X+ tool moves right (table left)
Y+ tool moves backwards (table to the front)

Thanks for the tip. I've reversed X & Y Active High/Low, switched the homing directions Neg/Pos and flipped the soft limits. It appears to be going right although I'm only cutting air (will test it out when I have time).
The jog buttons are now relative to tool movement, not table movement. Is that something I'll have to get use to or is it normal to set the jog buttons up for table movement?
Thanks again for the advice.

That is like a Switch in the head, to understand that you want to move the tool on the material and not the table. :)
