Title: installing mach3 under new windows
Post by: cruz on January 10, 2021, 04:04:14 PM
hi everyone,

i'm having trouble with on my pc for the cnc plasma table.
problem is not with mach3 but with sheetcam/update for window 7.
my question is if i completly uninstall windows 7 and install a new version of windows 7 on my pc (no internet connection on the pc).
will i be abe to just install mach3 back.
i will be copying the mach3 folder on to a usb stick and place it back after i've installed the new windows 7.
will this work?
or is there more "magic" going on behind the scene in the operating system that i will lose when uninstalling windows?
pc works with a parallel port.

thanks!

Hi,
Machs parallel port will ONLY work with a 32 bit OS, Windows 7 or earlier.

If you install a new copy of Windows 7 make sure it is a 32 bit version. If you want to install either 64bit Windows 7 or any Windows 10
variant then you will need an external motion controller like an Ethernet SmoothStepper or a UC300.

you will have to install a fresh Mach3 copy first.

then copy your licence, Profile, macros and maybe screenset.

Yes I have now windows 7 32bit running.
But If completely removed windows of the pc and do a fresh install of it.
And then place the original copied mach3 folder back.
Will mach3 run fine?
Or are there programs/setting in the background of Windows 7 or mach3 that need to be reconfigured?

Yes I got that part.
But I wanna make sure
After I
- install the fresh Windows 7 32bit
- reinstall mach3
- place the original mach3 folder back
That mach3 won't work because some settings or services or whatever missing.

i'm planning on doing a "repair install" on my windows 7 32bit.
i've read that then all programs and setting are kept intact.
has anybody done with succes?
i still gonna keep the original mach3 folder and do a backup / system image of windows to be sure.
