WARNING, I dont own the plasma cutter. My father in law has a plasma cutter and I recently bought a dxf file downloaded the said file to a thumb drive. Pretty easy... I thought! He told me when he opened the uploaded the file to Mach 3 it was ''words and direction. Not numbers and letters'' Does anyone know how to help, or what to do differently? I know he uses plasmacam and mach 3. I also researched using lazy cam to make the g code in mach 3. I dont know if he has this downloaded on his software. I also downloaded Fusion 360 and can see my files perfectly but know which file extension to save it as for Mach 3 to read it or get the g code thing. I've been on google for 3 hours trying to learn. Please help!!!! I will attach the files if it lets me.

Perhaps Google 'DXF to GCODE' there are a number of free converters available.
F-Engrave is good although I do not know if it supports a Plasma toolpath, you will just have to look and see. http://scorchworks.com/Fengrave/fengrave.html
Tweakie.
I like the Wine Men. ;D

Do you know he ending of the g code? Example- .dxf .stf ?? I dont know what file extension it should even be saved as to be considered "G CODE"
-
for Mach3 Default is .tap can also be .txt
any testfile is ok.
-
So if I find a program it needs to be resaved as .tap or . text correct?
-
anyhow the file ending is not so important, but it must be a Textfile.
you can do a test, by opening with Notepad, then you should see the G-code you expect.
-
When I try to open it it says my computer doesn't have an app to open the file. Would you mind trying it?
-
open Notepad
filetype -> any file
search and open your file
-
It says "0
